What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Manager Service Virtualization, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Manager Service Virtualization, you need expertise in service virtualization concepts, strong project management abilities, and a background in software development or IT, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with tools like CA Service Virtualization, Parasoft Virtualize, or IBM Rational Test Virtualization Server, and certifications in service virtualization or DevOps practices are typically required. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills help you manage teams and collaborate across departments effectively. These skills ensure successful implementation of virtualization solutions, streamlined testing processes, and the delivery of high-quality software products.

How does a Manager Service Virtualization typically collaborate with development and QA teams to streamline testing processes?

A Manager Service Virtualization works closely with both development and QA teams to implement and optimize virtual services that simulate dependent systems. This enables teams to test applications earlier and more thoroughly, even when some components are unavailable or unstable. The manager often facilitates communication between teams, ensures that virtual assets are maintained and updated, and helps integrate service virtualization tools into the CI/CD pipeline. Effective collaboration reduces bottlenecks, accelerates release cycles, and improves software quality.

What is a Manager Service Virtualization?

A Manager Service Virtualization oversees the implementation and management of service virtualization tools and processes within an organization. Service virtualization is the practice of simulating the behavior of components in complex applications, enabling teams to test and develop software even when certain parts are unavailable or incomplete. The manager leads teams that design, deploy, and maintain these virtual services, ensuring efficient and reliable software delivery. They also coordinate with other IT and business units to optimize development workflows and reduce bottlenecks.

What is the difference between Manager Service Virtualization vs Service Virtualization Engineer?

Job description

LightEdge Solutions is developing the IT solutions that will propel businesses forward over the next 10 years. Using a combination of shared and private/dedicated platforms, LightEdge has been successful in offering businesses alternatives that streamline operations, improve reliability and reduce costs.
If you are passionate about creating real solutions that help businesses with cutting-edge technology, want to be challenged to think out of the box and be in a position where you can impact change on a daily basis, then LightEdge can offer you a dynamic corporate environment built on teamwork and personal responsibility.

Lightedge is seeking a Virtualization Engineer II to support the administration, operational support, and lifecycle management of VMware-based cloud infrastructure platforms with a strong focus on VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF). This role will support ongoing VCF initiatives and operational growth as Lightedge continues expanding VCF-based service offerings throughout 2026 and beyond.

The ideal candidate will possess solid experience with VMware virtualization technologies and demonstrate foundational knowledge of VMware Cloud Foundation concepts, including vSphere, vSAN, NSX, and SDDC lifecycle operations. This role will work closely with senior engineering staff, implementation teams, vendors, and customers to support operational excellence across enterprise virtualization environments.

This position is well-suited for engineers looking to further develop expertise within modern software-defined data center (SDDC) and VCF environments while operating in a 24x7x365 enterprise managed services environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Support operational management and lifecycle administration of VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) environments within existing production infrastructure.
  • Assist with installation, configuration, and validation of vSphere, vSAN, NSX-T, and associated virtualization infrastructure components.
  • Participate in infrastructure upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management activities using SDDC Manager and related VMware tooling.
  • Collaborate with implementation and engineering teams during onboarding, expansion, and transition activities for VCF-based environments.
  • Troubleshoot virtualization, compute, storage, and networking issues within production environments.
  • Collaborate with cloud, networking, security, and storage teams to support integrated infrastructure delivery.
  • Participate in incident response, escalation support, and root cause analysis efforts.
  • Participate in scheduled customer-facing technical calls, troubleshooting sessions, maintenance activities, and escalation discussions as required.
  • Collaborate with customers, vendors, and internal technical teams during operational support activities and infrastructure issue resolution.
  • Coordinate with hardware, software, and support vendors by opening and managing support cases and facilitating troubleshooting efforts through resolution.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and runbooks.
  • Participate in a shared 24x7x365 on-call rotation with other virtualization engineers. Current rotation scheduling is approximately one week of primary on-call coverage every six weeks, subject to team size and operational needs.
  • Support scheduled after-hours maintenance activities and infrastructure upgrades as required.
  • Contribute to process improvement and operational standardization initiatives.
  • Maintain awareness of evolving VMware and VCF platform capabilities and best practices.
  • Ability to support secure, compliance-driven enterprise environments.
Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of enterprise virtualization or infrastructure engineering experience.
  • Hands-on experience supporting VMware vSphere environments in enterprise production environments.
  • Foundational understanding of VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) architecture and operational concepts.
  • Experience with one or more of the following:
    • VMware vSphere
    • vSAN
    • NSX-T
    • SDDC Manager
  • Experience supporting infrastructure in highly available production environments.
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals including VLANs, routing, and firewall concepts.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working within structured change management processes.
  • Comfortable participating in scheduled customer-facing technical discussions and working sessions related to operational support and infrastructure maintenance.
  • Experience working directly with technology vendors and managing support cases through resolution.
  • Ability to create and maintain technical documentation.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to effectively interact with customers, vendors, and cross-functional technical teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Exposure to VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) implementation, onboarding, or environment expansion activities.
  • VMware certifications such as VCP-DCV, VCP-VCF, or progress toward VMware Cloud Foundation certification paths.
  • Experience with VMware Aria / vRealize components.
  • Experience with VMware Aria Operations and other virtualization infrastructure monitoring and performance management platforms.
  • Foundational awareness or exposure to VMware Kubernetes offerings including VMware Kubernetes Service (VKS) and/or Tanzu Kubernetes Grid (TKG).
  • Familiarity with automation or scripting tools such as PowerShell, PowerCLI, or Python.
  • Experience supporting Dell VxRail infrastructure platforms.
  • Familiarity with Dell OpenManage Enterprise (OME) or similar infrastructure management platforms.
  • Experience in managed services, hosting, or service provider environments.
  • Familiarity with enterprise storage platforms and software-defined data center (SDDC) operations.
  • Familiarity with enterprise backup, disaster recovery, and replication platforms such as Veeam, Zerto, VMware Cloud Director Availability (VCDA), and Commvault.
  • Familiarity with modern AI-assisted productivity and operational tools, such as ChatGPT or similar platforms, for process improvement, documentation, troubleshooting assistance, and operational efficiency.
