Job description

Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) located in scenic Upstate NY is a multi-campus College with locations in Troy and Malta New York. HVCC offers more than 80 degree and certificate programs in three schools: Business and Liberal Arts; Health Sciences; and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Hudson Valley is one of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York (SUNY) system and serves nearly 9,000 students each year.

The college is a recognized leader in career and transfer preparation, workforce training initiatives, distance learning and service to a diverse population of students. Hudson Valley has an extension center in Malta, NY known as HVCC North and sponsors the Capital District Educational Opportunity Center in Troy, NY. With more than 80,000 alumni and nearly 1,000 employees, the college is a catalyst for educational opportunity and economic development in the Capital Region of New York State.

Position Summary The Director of Development reports to the Chief Advancement Officer / Executive Director of the Foundation or their designee. This experienced and enterprising fundraising professional will strengthen philanthropic support for Hudson Valley Community College through cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of a prospect portfolio of 100+ donors and prospective donors capable of making gifts of $25,000 and higher and will deepen alumni and donors' connection with HVCC's current priorities. This role will also supervise Assistant Directors of Development and will work closely with other Advancement / Foundation team members to direct fundraising activities including major gifts, annual giving, alumni engagement, and fundraising and alumni events.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and at least three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in development with a proven ability to engage individuals and secure gifts; the ability to inspire donors to provide significant philanthropic support. Ability to communicate effectively with all campus constituents and the public including strong oral, written, and listening ability. Ability and willingness to travel frequently to meet with donors and prospects, including overnight travel.

Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree from an accredited college or university. Experience with Blackbaud Raiser's Edge suite of products or equivalent donor management system. Experience with fundraising in a higher education not-for-profit environment.

Experience soliciting and closing major gifts, planned gifts, or corporate / private grants. Nature and Scope of Duties: Major Gift Fundraising and Strategy • Manages a portfolio of individuals and corporate contacts through the identification, qualification, cultivation, and solicitation, and stewardship cycles; forges relationships with a diverse population of prospects to secure gifts that advance Hudson Valley Community College to new levels of distinction. • Meets with prospects, often in tandem with the President, Chief Advancement Officer, other campus leadership, and faculty members; works proactively to deepen prospects' engagement through substantive campus visits and other strategies.

• Oversees the preparation of proposals, talking points, and briefings for the President and Chief Advancement Officer; ensures that all stakeholders are involved in key efforts focused on specific prospects. • Collaborates closely with the Chief Advancement Officer to identify and articulate fundraising priorities. • Works with Advancement / Foundation colleagues to ensure that donors are properly stewarded.

• Collaborates with the Chief Advancement Officer to design prospect strategies for complex solicitations and identify appropriate giving vehicles, including planned giving. • Research relevant non-governmental grant opportunities, writes grant applications and renewal requests and submit grant reports as needed. • Maintains complete and timely records of contacts with prospects.

Annual Giving, Alumni Relations, and Special Events Strategy and Staff Oversight • Supervises the work of one or more Assistant Directors of Development, whose duties may include annual giving, alumni relations, and special events. • Works in consultation with the Chief Advancement Officer and other staff to formulate a comprehensive strategy and annual solicitation calendar for annual giving appeals and special initiatives which may include President Circle Society, Legacy Giving Society, Employee giving, and other areas of special focus. • Assists in the strategy, planning, preparation, and execution of signature Foundation events which may include scholarship recognition events, golf outings, galas, reunions, social events, and other similar activities.

• Serves as primary liaison to the Development and Alumni Committees of the Foundation Board of Directors to develop and facilitate strategy to engage and connect alumni to the college. This includes producing alumni newsletters, coordinating alumni events and creating other plans to significantly increase alumni participation and giving. • Performs other duties as assigned.

This is a 12-month, Full-Time position with a salary range of $90,000-$100,000. Hudson Valley offers a full benefit package including Health Insurance, Dental and Eye Insurance, Retirement, employee and employee's spouse and children free tuition waivers. HVCC also has a generous leave policy.
