Job description
For more than55 years, Family Health Centers of San Diego's (FHCSD) mission has been to provide caring, affordable, high-quality health care and supportive services to everyone, with a special commitment to uninsured, low-income and medically underserved persons.
FHCSD is one of the top 10 largest federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) in the country. We operate more than 90 sites across San Diego County, including 29 primary care clinics, 23 behavioral health facilities, 10 physical rehabilitation clinics, nine dental clinics, five vision clinics, four outpatient substance use treatment programs, three mobile medical units, two mobile counseling centers, two urgent care centers, and a pharmacy.
Our staff provides care to over 227,000 patients each year, of whom 91% are low-income and 29% are uninsured. FHCSD provides care to all. Services include, but are not limited to adult care, chronic disease management, pediatrics, comprehensive women's care including obstetrics, dental, vision, case management, physical rehabilitation, speech therapy for children, vaccinations, infectious diseases, behavioral health, substance use counseling and a host of specialty services including cardiology, podiatry, endocrinology, dermatology, among others. FHCSD also offers supportive services to those who are unsheltered and in need of intensive case management.
The breadth of our clinic locations, services and programs has grown over the last five decades, making us the largest community clinic provider of health care to the uninsured in the county and one of the top 10 largest community clinic organizations in the nation. We are also the largest health care safety-net provider, largest school-based health care provider and the largest mental health provider in the San Diego region.
Family Health Centers of San Diego is looking for a Director of Development who is a key leader, responsible for creating the overall development strategy of the organization. The Director of Development has responsibility for establishing and implementing the capital fund through successful solicitation of major and minor gifts; federal, state, and philanthropic grants; special events; donor communications and corporate and foundation support.
Responsibilities:
Possesses strong leadership and fund development skills; provides guidance and support to development staff; sets performance goals; and mentors staff to raise performance levels and increase fundraising year over year.
Actively works with CEO to develop a comprehensive development plan to include corporate, foundation, government grants, and others.
Actively works to build an active and diversified donor base; develops a long-term relationship with all FHCSD donors.
Responsible for successfully producing the Spirit of the Barrio, four times a year; and the donor newsletter, Adelante, a companion piece to the Spirit of the Barrio luncheons, produced six times a year.
Effective at overseeing daily organizational operations.
Develops and articulates clear individual and team goals based on a sound annual development and communications plan so each team member understands their role in the overall effort.
Develop a system to monitor all donor information, report statistical analysis to senior leaders.
Develops a schedule of donor communications, tailored to current interests and past donors who support the FHCSD organization. Produced a minimum of six times a year.
Develops and oversees regular events through the activities of the event/fundraising team (open houses, dedication of new facilities, groundbreakings, etc.).
Through tours and Spirit of the Barrio, develops strong access/influence contacts.
Cultivates a strong volunteer network.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree required.
8-10 years' experience working in Development and Grants
5+ years' experience developing/leading events and developing solicitation campaigns.
Traveling between sites and other locations is required as an essential function of the job. Must have a car, a valid California driver's license, and proof of minimum levels of car insurance as required under California law, although limits of $100,000 are recommended. An acceptable driving record is also required. California law requires all drivers to obtain a valid California driver's license within ten days of establishing residency. Mileage and other reimbursement governed by policy.
Experience/Specialized Skills:
Demonstrated experience in cultivating and expanding cultivated donors and building relationships.
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build relationships.
Strong organizational skills; automate tracking for donor experience, research, and tracking efforts.
Experience with developing and executing events (fundraising, ribbon-cutting, tours, dedications, etc.)
Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives.
Creative
Ability to easily engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside of the organization.
High energy and passion for the organization's mission is essential.
Ability to construct, articulate, and implement annual strategic development plan.
Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail; meets deadlines.
Excellent donor relations skills

Comfortable speaking to large or small groups
