SummaryThe MRI Imaging Assistant supports MRI operations through patient assistance, MRI safety screening, room and equipment preparation, and non-interpretive imaging tasks under the direction of an MRI Technologist. This role assists with positioning but does not perform image acquisition.Key Responsibilities
  1. Perform MRI safety screening for patients, personnel, and non-personnel; identifies safety risks and escalates concerns promptly.
  2. Perform basic patient-care tasks such as obtaining vital signs, assisting with patient transfers, supporting standard precautions, and preparing patients for MRI exams.
  3. Apply MRI safety principles, including awareness of static fields, RF heating, gradient effects, and environmental hazards.
  4. Maintain controlled access to Zone III and support compliance with MRI Safety Zones.
  5. Select and position coils safely with technologist supervision; perform patient positioning and anatomical landmarking without initiating scans.
  6. Use proper ergonomic techniques to support patient comfort and minimize motion.
  7. Assist with patient communication.
  8. Prepare MRI rooms between exams, including coil setup, linen replacement, stocking, and equipment checks.
  9. Support workflow efficiency, room readiness, and patient throughput.
  10. Clean MRI rooms and related areas to maintain a safe, organized environment.
  11. Import required information accurately in the EHR and report equipment or safety issues promptly.
  12. Participate in required competencies, safety training, and ongoing development.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Experience in orthopedics, outpatient imaging, or medical assisting

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  1. Knowledge of MRI safety principles including screening, implants, and emergency protocols.
  2. Demonstrates professionalism through positive communication, teamwork, and respectful interactions.
  3. Understanding of anatomy relevant to MRI positioning and landmarking.
  4. Competent in patient care tasks including obtaining vital signs and safely transferring patients
  5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Ability to follow instructions accurately and maintain focus in a fast-paced environment.
  7. Computer literacy including basic EHR and PACS use.
  8. Strong organization, multitasking, and attention to detail

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent and prolonged personal contact with patients, which may be fast-paced and stressful assisting anxious or ill patients.
  • Frequent standing, walking, pushing or pulling.
  • Occasional bending, kneeling, squatting and lifting up to 30lbs
  • Ability to use computers and phones for extended periods
