The Maintenance Manager leads the maintenance function within a manufacturing facility, overseeing a team of four multi-skilled industrial maintenance technicians. This role ensures the reliability, efficiency, and continuous improvement of plant equipment, facilities, and infrastructure. The position partners closely with Production, Quality, Safety, and Plant Leadership to support operational excellence, while also managing capital improvement projects, coordinating outsourced maintenance services, and driving continuous improvement initiatives that enhance productivity, safety, and equipment performance. As part of the site leadership team, the Maintenance Manager has significant visibility into business operations and contributes to strategic decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of four multi-skilled industrial maintenance technicians to ensure high performance, engagement, and accountability.
  • Oversee day-to-day maintenance activities for plant equipment, facilities, and infrastructure to maximize uptime and equipment reliability.
  • Partner closely with Production, Quality, Safety, and Plant Leadership to align maintenance priorities with operational goals and support overall plant performance.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate preventive and predictive maintenance activities using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to minimize unplanned downtime.
  • Manage and optimize maintenance work order processes, including prioritization, execution, documentation, and follow-up.
  • Lead capital improvement projects, including equipment installations, facility upgrades, and process improvements from concept through completion.
  • Develop project scopes, timelines, and budgets for capital projects and ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to specification.
  • Oversee outsourced maintenance services and contractors, including scope development, bidding, vendor selection, scheduling, and performance management.
  • Ensure all contractors and maintenance activities comply with safety standards, including OSHA regulations, lockout/tagout (LOTO), machine guarding, and electrical safety requirements.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor maintenance budgets and capital expenditure plans, identifying and implementing cost-reduction initiatives without compromising safety or reliability.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on enhancing equipment performance, reducing downtime, and improving maintenance processes.
  • Use root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to resolve recurring equipment issues and prevent future failures.
  • Maintain accurate asset records, maintenance histories, and performance metrics within the CMMS to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support new equipment commissioning, process changes, and operational improvements.
  • Promote a strong safety culture within the maintenance team by reinforcing safe work practices, conducting safety reviews, and addressing hazards promptly.
  • Support strategic planning and decision-making as an active member of the site leadership team, providing insights on maintenance capabilities, risks, and opportunities.

Essential Skills

  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing maintenance teams in a manufacturing, industrial, food processing, chemical, packaging, or similar production environment.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial equipment, including conveyors, motors, pumps, gearboxes, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, PLC-controlled equipment, and automation systems.
  • Proficiency with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for work order management, preventive maintenance scheduling, asset tracking, and reporting.
  • Experience developing and managing maintenance budgets, capital expenditure plans, and cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Proven ability to lead capital projects, equipment installations, facility upgrades, and process improvement initiatives from concept through completion.
  • Strong contractor management experience, including scope development, bidding, vendor selection, scheduling, performance management, and safety compliance.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, lockout/tagout (LOTO), machine guarding, electrical safety, and other industrial safety standards.
  • Experience with root cause analysis (RCA), corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), and continuous improvement methodologies.
