Description: Head of Maintenance – Local Private Estate

A local private estate is seeking an experienced, hands-on, and highly reliable Head of Maintenance to oversee the property’s buildings, systems, grounds, and operational infrastructure. This leadership role ensures the estate is safe, functional, and impeccably maintained while upholding the household’s high standards of presentation and service.


About the Role

The Head of Maintenance is responsible for supervising maintenance staff and vendors, managing preventative maintenance schedules, responding to urgent needs, and ensuring that all interior and exterior areas operate smoothly. This position plays a vital role in supporting the daily functioning of the estate and works closely with household leadership to address evolving property needs. 


Key ResponsibilitiesStaff & Vendor Management
  • Lead and supervise maintenance staff, coordinating daily assignments and quality control.
  • Train, guide, and support team members to ensure consistent, high-quality work.
  • Manage on-site contractors and vendors, ensuring adherence to estate expectations.
  • Maintain records of maintenance activities, schedules, inspections, and vendor documentation.
Property & Systems Oversight
  • Oversee maintenance of estate buildings, mechanical systems, tools, and equipment.
  • Conduct routine inspections to ensure safety, functionality, and compliance
  • Develop and execute preventative maintenance plans.
  • Respond to urgent repairs and fulfill 24/7 on-call responsibilities as needed.
Grounds & Exterior Care
  • Oversee landscaping, irrigation, pools, and other exterior features.
  • Ensure the grounds remain clean, safe, and visually pristine.
  • Coordinate seasonal tasks such as storm preparation, winterizing, and exterior clean-ups.
Inventory & Resource Management
  • Manage supplies, tools, and maintenance equipment.
  • Track repairs, replacements, and ongoing service needs.
  • Assist in developing annual maintenance budgets and long-term property plans.
Collaboration & Support
  • Partner with the House Manager and household team to support daily operations.
  • Assist with estate events requiring logistical or maintenance support.
  • Monitor property security and promptly report safety concerns or hazards.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by estate leadership or principals.
Qualifications
  • Ability to lead and communicate effectively with staff, vendors, and principals.
  • Skilled in hands-on maintenance tasks, including lifting, climbing, and equipment handling.
  • Reliable attendance with flexibility for evenings, weekends, and emergency calls.
  • Strong time management and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience working with residential or estate-level facilities preferred.
