We're Hiring: Head of Maintenance

Emmetsburg Catholic School and Holy Family Parish are seeking a dependable, hands-on Head of Maintenance to oversee the care and maintenance of our buildings and grounds. This position plays an important role in providing a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for parishioners, students, staff, and visitors.The Head of Maintenance is responsible for planning and performing routine maintenance, coordinating repairs and preventative maintenance, overseeing custodial and grounds operations, managing outside contractors, and helping ensure the school and parish facilities are well maintained year-round. This position also supports events and works closely with staff to address facility needs.The ideal candidate has experience in building maintenance, strong organizational and problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects while working independently and as part of a team. Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general building systems is preferred.


Responsibilities include:

  • Perform and coordinate routine maintenance and repairs.
  • Develop and manage preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Supervise custodial staff.
  • Coordinate contractors and service providers.
  • Purchase supplies and equipment
  • Ensure facilities comply with safety standards and diocesan policies.
  • Assist with room setups and support parish events as needed.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance issues and emergencies.
  • Landscaping, mowing, and snow removal

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Technical or trade certification is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and general building maintenance.
  • Ability to diagnose problems and perform routine repairs.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and respond to changing maintenance needs.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work, including climbing ladders and working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Basic computer skills for email and recordkeeping.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and work collaboratively with parish staff, volunteers, and vendors.
