Job description

The Pictsweet Company is growing! Family owned and operated for 80 years, Pictsweet is a frozen vegetable producer with agricultural roots. We are seeking a Supervisor of Refrigeration and Maintenance to join our vegetable processing facilitiy in Bridgeville, DE. The supervisor will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the ammonia refrigeration system, production equipment, and boiler system.


  • Monitors and maintains the refrigeration equipment, production equipment, and boiler systems through routine checks, lubrication of equipment, and repair/replacement of parts as needed. Maintains appropriate records and reports.
  • Responds to ammonia releases within the scope of training.
  • Complies with, maintains, and updates PSM policies, procedures, and compliance reviews.
  • Assists in Hazard Analysis, PSM audit, and related regulatory compliance programs of the plant.
  • Coordinates activities required to maintain operating permits for refrigeration and boiler permits.
  • Complies with all OSHA and company safety standards and policies.
  • Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulations relating to food safety and personnel safety as they pertain to department functions.
  • Participates and assists in food safety audits and personnel safety training.
  • Must complete 24-hour HAZWOPER certification training and Incident Commander training. Must complete annual training of Emergency Response Team as offered by the company.

EXPERIENCE:  5 years supervisory experience. Must have at least 5 years of industrial maintenance experience including 3 years operating a large ammonia refrigeration system. Prior service on an Emergency Response Team preferred. Prior supervisory experience of technically trained professionals preferred.

EDUCATION: High School diploma or GED. Bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required. Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.  Must have an advanced understanding of ammonia refrigeration. Refrigeration Engineers and Technicians Association (RETA) certification preferred. 

SPECIAL SKILLS: Must be physically capable of wearing an SCBA (and Chemical Suit), respirator and serving as member of emergency response team.  Position requires 24/7 hr. availability for emergency call-in at any time. Must be able to trouble shoot ammonia systems. Be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
