Winthrop amp; Weinstine, an entrepreneurial, full-service law firm in downtown Minneapolis, has an excellent opportunity on its well-recognized creditors’ remedies team for an associate attorney with 2-5 years of experience. Qualified candidates will be highly motivated, have excellent academic credentials, strong analytical abilities, excellent oral and written skills and will be a self-starter. The candidate will have 2-5 years of Creditors’ Remedies experience. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (Including, but not limited to):
  • Reviews and analyzes newly assigned and existing matters in order to provide legal representation until the matter is concluded.
  • Drafts all necessary documents and pleadings to provide legal representation to clients.
  • Performs necessary legal research using all available resources including libraries and computer data systems.
  • Formulates and issues well-founded legal opinions to clients.
  • Effectively conducts negotiations, when appropriate, to resolve matters on behalf of clients.
  • Advises and communicates regularly with clients regarding the status of their matter.
  • Maintains membership in state bar and completes all required Continuing Legal Education requirements on an annual basis
  • Follows the ethical requirements as set forth by the Rules of Professional Conduct of the state and complies with all requirements of the firm’s professional liability insurer.

COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES) REQUIRED:
  • Dependable, accountable, and consistently demonstrating a strong work ethic with a professional demeanor in all interactions.
  • Ability to work well under pressure with deadlines – possess a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a variety of personalities and work styles.
  • Ability to be flexible in schedule and adaptable to constant change.
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks and frequent interruptions.
  • Analytical skills necessary to conduct complex and detailed analysis of legal matters.
  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate by e-mail and telephone with a diverse group of clients, attorneys and staff and provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact.
  • Work requires more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position.
QUALIFICATIONS, REQUIRED:
  • Two plus years of experience, with a preference for relevant experience as a bankruptcy law clerk or in representing banks, financial institutions, loan servicers, private secured lenders, and other secured lenders within one or more of the financial litigation, secured creditor, creditors’ remedies, bankruptcy, and work-out practice areas.
  • Highly motivated and self-starter.
  • Strong analytical abilities.
  • Excellent computer and communication skills.
  • Experience with the following software: MS Office and Excel.
  • Excellent grammar, proofreading skills, and a keen eye for detail, ensuring high levels of accuracy in all written communications and document preparation.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks effectively, ensuring completion of assignments despite frequent interruptions and changes in schedule.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Requires use of office equipment, such as computers, phones, and copiers.
  • Requires sitting and computer-related activities for extended periods of time.
  • Requires occasional lifting up to and exceeding 20 pounds.

SALARY amp; BENEFITS
Competitive base salary commensurate with experience. $205,000 - $260,000 annually.
Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. Winthrop amp; Weinstine reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualifications of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
