Job description

At Coastal Legal Affiliates, we blend top-tier legal expertise with a modern, agile approach to client advocacy. Covering diverse practice areas—including estate planning, civil litigation, family law, and criminal defense—we pride ourselves on efficiency, precision, and excellence. We are looking for an experienced, high-caliber Legal Assistant / Case Manager who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is ready to take full ownership of their workflow.

The Role: Own the Process

This is not an entry-level position, and we are not looking to micro-manage. We need a proactive, battle-tested professional who can step in, take the reins of our case management, and run with them. You will be the backbone of our operational efficiency, managing cases from intake to resolution, drafting high-level legal documents, and serving as a sharp, reliable liaison between attorneys and clients.

If you are a self-starter who prides themselves on autonomy and "owning the room" computationally and organizationally, you’ll fit right in.

Key Responsibilities

  • End-to-End Case Management: Take absolute ownership of case files and the litigation lifecycle. Monitor deadlines, coordinate discovery efforts, and manage court filings with zero oversight.
  • High-Level Legal Drafting: Draft, proofread, and edit complex legal documents, pleadings, contracts, and professional correspondence with bulletproof precision.
  • Strategic Research: Conduct comprehensive legal research across diverse practice areas (probate, family law, civil litigation, etc.) to actively support attorney case strategies.
  • Client & File Mastery: Act as the primary, polished point of contact for clients. Gather pertinent information for personal injury, probate, and estate matters while keeping files meticulously organized via Clio and other document management systems.
  • Administrative Command: Seamlessly manage calendars, schedule court dates, handle data entry, and juggle competing priorities without letting anything drop.

Experience & Qualifications (A Must)

Note: Direct, hands-on experience in a legal assistant or paralegal capacity is strictly required. We are seeking a professional who does not need to be hand-held through standard legal procedures.

  • Proven Track Record: Solid experience as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal, with a heavy emphasis on full-cycle case management and legal drafting.
  • Procedural Expertise: Deep, practical knowledge of procedural law across probate, family law, and general/commercial litigation.
  • Tech-Savvy: High proficiency with legal research tools (Westlaw/LexisNexis) and modern practice management software (experience with Clio is highly advantageous).
  • Extreme Autonomy: Strong organizational and project management skills. You should be someone who anticipates needs rather than waiting for instructions.
  • Sharp Communication: Exceptional writing and strict proofreading skills. Professional phone etiquette and confident client interviewing skills are essential.

Why Join Coastal Legal Affiliates?

If you are tired of being micromanaged and are looking for a firm where your expertise is respected, your autonomy is valued, and your contribution directly impacts our success, we want to hear from you. This is a paid, dynamic role offering the opportunity to work on impactful cases alongside a team committed to legal excellence.

Company Description

We are a small, client-focused law firm with a diverse practice that includes civil litigation, personal injury, estate planning, probate administration, family law, and related legal matters. Our firm offers staff the opportunity to gain meaningful hands-on experience, work directly with clients, and handle a broad range of challenging and rewarding cases in a collegial and supportive environment. We value professionalism, initiative, and a commitment to excellent client service.
