Job description

Bilingual Legal Assistant / Paralegal (Part-Time) — Baltimore, MD

The Gauvin Law Firm is seeking a bilingual (Spanish/English) legal assistant and paralegal to support our growing practice. This is a part-time, in-office position based in downtown Baltimore, ideal for someone who is organized, personable, and comfortable wearing multiple hats in a small-firm environment.

About the Firm

The Gauvin Law Firm is a Baltimore-based practice handling consumer bankruptcy (Chapter 7 and 13), immigration, and family law matters (including complex custody). We're a small, close-knit office where every team member's work has a direct impact on our clients' lives.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as the first point of contact for clients, many of whom are more comfortable communicating in Spanish
  • Interview and intake new clients, gather documentation, and prepare case files
  • Draft routine correspondence, pleadings, and forms under attorney supervision
  • Manage the attorney's calendar, scheduling, and deadlines
  • Communicate with courts, opposing counsel, and government agencies (e.g., USCIS, bankruptcy trustees) to track case status
  • Translate and interpret for clients and during client meetings as needed
  • Handle general office administration and light bookkeeping/invoicing support

What We're Looking For

  • Fluent in spoken and written Spanish and English (required)
  • Prior experience as a paralegal, legal assistant, or personal assistant preferred; experience in bankruptcy, immigration, or family law is a strong plus, but we're willing to train the right candidate
  • Excellent organizational skills and close attention to detail
  • Strong written communication skills in both languages
  • Comfortable managing sensitive and confidential client information with discretion
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office/Google Workspace; comfortable learning case management software
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently in a small-office setting

Details

  • Position type: Part-time
  • Location: 1120 N. Charles Street, Suite 410, Baltimore, MD 21202 (in-office)
  • Compensation: Competitive, commensurate with experience

How to Apply

Please email your resume and a brief cover letter and let us know about your Spanish-language experience and any relevant legal or administrative background.

The Gauvin Law Firm is an equal opportunity employer.
