JOB SUMMARY
The Training & Development Manager leads the design, development, and execution of learning solutions that build employee capability and support business performance across SCI Direct. This role serves as a hands-on instructional design leader who personally designs and develops learning solutions while partnering with business leaders, subject matter experts, and cross-functional teams to assess performance and learning needs and translate business requirements into effective learning experiences.
The Manager applies contemporary learning design practices to develop learning objectives, digital learning, instructor-led and virtual training, video scripts and storyboards, job aids, assessments, facilitator resources, and other performance support tools. This role also provides functional leadership and quality oversight across learning initiatives, supports recurring orientation and learning programs, and guides the continued development of learning technology and innovative learning practices.
 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Learning Needs & Instructional Design

  • Partner with business leaders, subject matter experts, and stakeholders to identify performance and learning needs and determine appropriate solutions.
  • Apply contemporary instructional design practices, adult learning principles, and structured design methodologies to create effective learning experiences.
  • Develop measurable learning objectives, assessments, practice activities, and reinforcement strategies aligned with business outcomes.
  • Design blended learning solutions including digital learning, instructor-led and virtual training, microlearning, video-based learning, and performance support.

Content Development

  • Lead discovery sessions and subject matter expert interviews to translate business knowledge into clear, learner-centered content.
  • Design, build, and update digital learning modules, presentations, facilitator materials, participant resources, job aids, playbooks, and other performance support tools.
  • Develop scripts, storyboards, outlines, and production guidance for training videos and multimedia learning.
  • Partner with production resources and review learning materials to ensure instructional quality, accuracy, consistency, and intended outcomes.

Orientation, Facilitation & Learning Technology

  • Oversee the quality and readiness of recurring in-person, virtual, and hybrid learning programs, including Sales and Services orientations.
  • Provide guidance to team members and presenters responsible for program coordination, facilitation, and delivery.
  • Facilitate, present, or support virtual learning sessions when appropriate using platforms such as Zoom, Webex, or similar technologies.
  • Provide functional leadership for the organization’s learning and readiness platforms, including content strategy, assessments, AI-enabled practice, learning resources, adoption, and learner experience.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Provide guidance, coaching, and quality oversight to team members and business partners involved in learning development and delivery, while building strong cross-functional partnerships.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Learning Sciences, Education, Learning & Development, Organizational Development, Human Resources, Communications, Business, or a related field required.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in Learning & Development, instructional design, learning experience design, corporate training, or a related field.
  • Significant hands-on instructional design experience required, including needs assessment, learning objective development, solution design, development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated experience developing multiple forms of learning, including digital learning, instructor-led or virtual learning, video-based learning, job aids, assessments, and performance support resources.
  • Experience partnering with subject matter experts and translating complex business information into structured learning experiences.
  • Experience developing scripts and storyboards for video or multimedia learning.
  • Experience working with learning management, readiness, enablement, or digital learning platforms.
  • Experience providing leadership, coaching, work direction, or quality oversight across learning initiatives or project teams; people-management experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of instructional design, adult learning principles, learning experience design, and performance-focused learning practices.
  • Working knowledge of structured design methodologies such as ADDIE and iterative development approaches.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to develop clear learning content, scripts, storyboards, presentations, and facilitator materials.
  • Strong planning, prioritization, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple learning requests and deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills with the ability to build effective business partnerships.
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills in both in-person and virtual environments.
  • Strong technology aptitude with the ability to use digital learning platforms, content-authoring tools, virtual meeting technologies, and AI-enabled learning tools.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, manage ambiguity, and maintain a high standard of quality and learner experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including PowerPoint and Word.
