A Learning Content Designer creates educational materials and experiences that help learners acquire new knowledge or skills. They use instructional design principles to develop engaging content such as courses, modules, videos, and assessments. Learning Content Designers often work with subject matter experts, use digital tools, and tailor materials for specific audiences or platforms. Their goal is to make learning effective, accessible, and enjoyable.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a learning content designer?

To succeed as a Learning Content Designer, you need expertise in instructional design principles, curriculum development, and usually a background in education or a related field. Familiarity with e-learning authoring tools (such as Articulate Storyline or Adobe Captivate), learning management systems (LMS), and sometimes certifications like ATD or CPLP are typically required. These skills ensure that learning materials are engaging, effective, and aligned with organizational goals, ultimately enhancing learner outcomes.

How do learning content designers typically collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) during the content development process?

  • Translate complex business processes, Leadership Principles, and technical content into engaging, accessible learning materials
  • Develop multimedia content including videos, interactive modules, infographics, and digital resources
  • Design end-to-end learning journeys that connect individual assets into cohesive development pathways, including personalized recommendations and just-in-time resources
  • Ensure all content aligns with Blue Origin's brand standards and Leadership Principles integration requirements
  • Design facilitation guides, templates, and delivery-ready materials that enable consistent delivery quality by others

  • Utilize AI for content customization, rapid prototyping, and asset generation
  • Maintain quality standards while scaling content production through AI-assisted workflows

  • Conduct content reviews in partnership with the HR IPS Team to ensure inclusion and accessibility
  • Ensure all learning content meets adult learning principles and instructional design best practices
  • Maintain content library organization and version control across all learning assets
Facilitation & Delivery (Adjacent Skill)
  • Facilitate select workshops and learning sessions, primarily to pilot, refine, and demonstrate designed content
  • Support distributed training professionals in the Blue Learning CoP by coaching on facilitation and delivery of designed materials
  • Contribute to train-the-trainer resources that build facilitation capability across the enterprise
  • Adapt design approaches based on delivery insights and facilitator feedback

Measurement & Continuous Improvement
  • Build measurement and feedback mechanisms embedded within learning experiences
  • Gather feedback and effectiveness data to inform design iteration
  • Analyze design impact and identify improvement opportunities
  • Share design best practices across the distributed training network (CoP)
