Pricing & Reporting Analyst

Pricing & Reporting Analyst

CSC Generation

Cottonwood Heights, UT โ€ข On-site, Remote

Full-time

Posted 5 days ago

Job description

Adventure is our Culture. Join a team that celebrates a lifestyle as bold as the terrain we love. At Backcountry, we are rooted in adventure, recognition, and wellbeing on and off the mountain. We spotlight employee stories, celebrate milestones, and offer exclusive outdoor perks. Whether you are at HQ, in a retail store, or remote, you will be part of a team that thrives on energy, exploration, and connection.

Reports to: Sr. Pricing Analyst

Location: Cottonwood Heights, Utah (Hybrid - 3x/week in-office)

About the Role

The Merchandise Planning team needs a data-driven analyst to own the day-to-day mechanics of pricing across Backcountry's four bannersโ€”competitive pricing audits, markdown execution, MAP/MSRP compliance, and the reporting that powers pricing decisions.

As Pricing & Reporting Analyst, you will work directly with the Sr. Pricing Analyst to maximize profitability through smart pricing execution. By 6โ€“12 months, you will be running pricing operations independently, regularly making recommendations that move sell-through, margin, or working capital, and serving as the team's go-to for AI-augmented workflows.

This is a lean team. You will own a lot, move fast, and make decisions with full end-to-end responsibility.

About the Role
  • Pull pricing, margin, and sales data from the data warehouse for ad hoc analysis
  • Use AI tools (Claude, Claude Code, Copilot, or similar) daily to write formulas, draft SQL, automate repetitive tasks, summarize results, and accelerate your own learning
  • Execute daily, weekly, and seasonal price changes across four banners, ensuring accuracy and on-time delivery
  • Monitor competitive pricing across key categories and partner brands; surface risks and opportunities to the Sr. Pricing Analyst and Buying teams
  • Track MAP and MSRP compliance across the assortment, flagging and correcting violations in a timely manner
  • Bring analytical judgment to pricing and strategy conversationsโ€”surface trends, audit outcomes, flag risks, and recommend pricing actions that improve sell-through, margin, or working capital
  • Build and maintain pricing reports and dashboards that Planning, Buying, and Marketing teams rely on
  • Document and improve pricing processesโ€”turn one-off analyses into repeatable AI-powered workflows
  • Partner with Marketing on promotional pricing setup and post-promo recaps
  • Maintain a strong feedback loop with the Sr. Pricing Analyst on what is working, what is not, and where to push next

Required Qualifications
  • 3โ€“5 years of analyst experience, preferably in retail, ecommerce, or a related data-driven role
  • Demonstrated daily use of AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, or similar) for real workโ€”you iterate on prompts, evaluate outputs critically, and know when AI is the right tool versus when it is not
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Excel (pivots, lookups, formulas) and a strong aptitude to learn technical applications quickly
  • Solid understanding of retail math (margin, markdown, sell-through, IMU) and financial concepts (GMROI, NPV, CM%)
  • Awareness of customer pricing behaviorโ€”anchoring, discount perception, and how merchandising and pricing decisions land on a product detail page
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work with messy datasets
  • Excellent attention to detailโ€”pricing errors are expensive, and you treat that responsibility seriously
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; able to translate analysis into a clear, concise recommendation
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively across Planning, Buying, Marketing, and Finance
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Statistics, or a related field preferred; equivalent demonstrated experience considered
  • Passion for the outdoor industry and knowledge of outdoor gear is a plus.ย
Why Join

The people who do best here are builders. They take ownership, move fast, and want to see the direct impact of their work.

  • Cross-Functional Impact: Your pricing work carries weight beyond the Pricing teamโ€”recommendations you make will shape decisions across Planning, Buying, Marketing, and Finance.
  • AI-First Skill Building: AI is a first-class tool here, not a buzzword. You will use Claude, Copilot, and similar tools daily and actively shape how the team adopts them.
  • Real Ownership: This role pairs tactical pricing execution with strategic contributions. You will report to an experienced Sr. Pricing Analyst with growth-focused mentorship and high visibility from day one.
  • Competitive Benefits: Paid time off policies, 401(k) match, medical/dental/vision and a variety of supplemental policies, and employee discounts across our portfolio of brands.
Interview Process
  1. Recruiter Screen - A 30-minute conversation with our recruiting team to align on the role, your background, and what you are looking for.
  2. Hiring Manager Interview - Conversation with the Sr. Pricing Analyst focused on your analytical approach, pricing experience, and AI tool proficiency.
  3. Take-Home Assignment - A pre-built test requiring high-level analysis, the use and documentation of AI as a working partner, and advanced communication skills to convey complex business recommendations.
  4. In-Person Interview - We'd like to meet you at our Cottonwood Heights office. Details and logistics will be arranged with your recruiter.
  5. Reference Checks - Conducted in parallel with the final stages where possible.
  6. Offer - We move quickly for the right candidate.

Interview process is subject to change. Any updates will be communicated promptly and clearly.
