Description
The Lean / FEM Coordinator drives continuous improvement, waste elimination, and operational excellence across fabrication facilities. This role serves as the Lean subject-matter expert, training coordinator, and cultural ambassador for Lean, FEM, and VPDS methodologies. The coordinator leads cross-functional teams through structured improvement events, provides coaching to plant leadership and frontline teams, ensures compliance with FEM standards, and supports a safe, efficient, highly engaged work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all company safety rules, policies, and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure the facility maintains safe and sanitary working conditions in compliance with OSHA and corporate standards
  • Investigate accidents/near misses promptly, identify root causes, and collaborate with safety specialist to create/adapt corrective actions

Lean Leadership & Cultural Development
  • Serve as the skill coach/SME for Lean methodologies including Awareness, Baseline/Value Stream Mapping, Standard Workflow, Set-Up Reduction, TPM, Mistake-Proofing/Problem Solving, Method Sheets, 5S, and Kanban/Pull systems.
  • Build and sustain a team-based, waste-elimination culture, ensuring Lean activities contribute to a safer, more efficient workplace.

FEM / VPDS Program Execution
  • Develop and maintain the annual Lean/FEM activity schedule in alignment across fabrication facilities' goals.
  • Ensure planned FEM activities and improvement events are executed on schedule; identify and communicate risks or delays to leadership.
  • Support development of FEM metrics and ensure required KPIs are posted and updated per FEM criteria.
  • Complete standardized Lean/FEM reporting templates (monthly FEM progress, QIP worksheets, etc.) and participate in monthly report-outs.

Lean Event Coordination & Facilitation
  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate Lean events (5S, Baseline, TPM, SUR, Kanban, etc.) that support operational objectives.
  • Work with head of departments from Fabrication department to develop Lean event trainers and internal facilitators.

Training, Coaching & Development
  • Deliver Lean training modules for all FEM/VPDS related skills, including simulations, workshops, and hands-on learning.
  • Train and mentor lean champions to drive continuous improvement independently across fabrication facilities
  • Maintain accurate training records, sign-in sheets, and databases.

Performance Improvement & Problem Solving
  • Identify improvement opportunities across plant asset areas and drive implementation to increase throughput, reduce waste, and improve flow.
  • Partner with leadership to set Lean goals and business-aligned objectives.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and support corrective action development using QCPC and other structured problem-solving tools.

Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Minimum Associate Degree (Engineering, Operations, or related field preferred).
  • 5+ years of manufacturing environment experience preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years as a Lean practitioner; hands-on experience with Lean tools required.
  • Proven experience facilitating training or leading Lean/CI events.

Technical Skills
  • Strong knowledge of Lean principles (5S, VSM, TPM, Kanban, QCPC, SWF, SUR).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Access is a plus.
  • Ability to analyze plant metrics, create visual management systems, and support data-driven decision making.
  • Action-oriented, able to work hands-on in the plant.
  • Strong communication, analytical, coaching, persuasion, and decision-making skills.
  • Enthusiastic, collaborative, and able to influence across all workforce levels.
