We are seeking a highly experienced Lead Systems Engineer to serve as a senior technical leader within SIT's multidisciplinary engineering organization, driving technical excellence across hydraulic, electric, and electrohydraulic system solutions. This role is responsible for system architecture, technical execution, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, on budget, and to the highest quality standards. The Lead Systems Engineer will work closely with integrated systems, engineering operations, sales, project management, and key customers to translate complex requirements into engineered-to-order solutions that support SIT's long-term growth strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
โ€ข Technical Leadership & System Integration: Lead system-level design for complex hydraulic, electric, and electrohydraulic systems, ensuring robust, scalable, and high-performing solutions aligned with customer and application requirements.
โ€ข Technical Oversight: Provide senior-level technical guidance and design review for complex projects, ensuring compliance with customer requirements, codes, standards, and best practices.
โ€ข Project Execution & Accountability: Partner with project management and operations to ensure engineering deliverables support efficient fabrication, testing, installation, and commissioning.
โ€ข Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with sales, system integration, and engineering operations teams during pursuit and proposal phases to support solution development, technical risk assessment, and cost accuracy.
โ€ข Defense Compliance & Security Standards: Support engineering efforts for defense-related programs by ensuring designs comply with CMMC 2.0 cybersecurity requirements and applicable MIL-SPEC standards. Partner with internal stakeholders, customers, and suppliers to uphold security, documentation, and technical compliance across the full project lifecycle.
โ€ข Process Improvement & Standards: Contribute to the development and refinement of engineering processes, design standards, documentation practices, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality, consistency, and scalability.
โ€ข Customer & Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a technical interface with key customers, OEMs, classification societies, and regulatory bodies for technically complex or high-visibility programs.
โ€ข Technology & Innovation: Stay current on industry trends in electrification, controls, energy storage, and fluid power to guide system design and technology adoption.
โ€ข Safety & Quality Leadership: Promote a culture of safety, quality, and accountability across engineering activities and throughout the project lifecycle.

Requirements
Education:
โ€ข BSEE, BSME, BAET (ABET accredited university), or equivalent technical degree with relevant experience.
โ€ข Advanced technical training or certifications related to hydraulics and/or fluid power are a plus.
Experience:
โ€ข 7+ years of progressive engineering experience in hydraulic or electrohydraulic system design and integration.
โ€ข Experience delivering engineered-to-order systems in marine, oil & gas, defense, civil infrastructure, or heavy industrial environments.
โ€ข Strong understanding of system-level engineering, design reviews, and lifecycle execution.
โ€ข Experience in negotiating, reviewing, and developing contract technical specifications.
Desired Experience, Knowledge & Skills:
โ€ข Deep knowledge of electric power systems, controls, PLC programming, and/or fluid power systems.
โ€ข Ability to read, interpret, and approve electrical, hydraulic, and control schematics.
โ€ข Proven ability to lead teams in a fast-paced, project-driven environment with shifting priorities.
โ€ข Strong communication skills-both written and verbal-with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.
