Job Description
ATANE Engineers, P.C. is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Laboratory Manager to oversee the daily operations of our materials testing laboratory. The Laboratory Manager will be responsible for ensuring efficient workflow, regulatory compliance, and the accuracy and integrity of laboratory testing and reporting. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and a commitment to maintaining ATANE's high standards of quality and client service.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and manage the daily operations of ATANE's materials testing laboratory to ensure productivity, efficiency, and compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
  • Coordinate schedules and daily activities with laboratory technicians to ensure timely testing, reporting, and turnaround of results.
  • Maintain all required laboratory licenses, certifications, and accreditations (e.g., AASHTO, CCRL, state DOT), ensuring ongoing compliance with regulatory, client, and contract requirements.
  • Generate, review, and approve laboratory reports for accuracy, completeness, and conformance with applicable specifications and quality standards.
  • Review laboratory test results to verify technical validity, identify nonconforming results, and ensure corrective actions are implemented when necessary.
  • Implement, maintain, and improve laboratory quality control and quality assurance procedures.
  • Ensure proper maintenance, calibration, and documentation of laboratory equipment and testing apparatus.
  • Prepare for and support audits and inspections by accreditation bodies, state agencies, and clients.
  • Provide training, guidance, and performance oversight for laboratory technicians and support staff.
  • Coordinate with project managers and engineering staff to support project-specific testing requirements and reporting needs.

Job Requirements
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of five (5) years of direct laboratory management experience in a materials testing or similar technical laboratory environment.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing laboratory operations and technical staff.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory quality systems, reporting practices, and accreditation requirements (e.g., AASHTO, CCRL, ASTM).
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and standard office software.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Civil Engineering, Chemistry, or a related technical field.
  • Professional certifications relevant to laboratory operations or materials testing.
  • ACI Level II Laboratory Technician
  • Experience working in an accredited construction materials testing laboratory.
