Job description

 

Summary

The Junior Project Manager (JPM) will assist the Project Manager in planning, directing, and management of project teams to support large contract requirements.  JPM assists the Project Manager in determining the overall project(s) support requirements, including facilities, personnel, safety, and maintenance.  JPM will independently direct and coordinate project activities on smaller projects.  JPM provides input for logistic support sequences and time phasing designed to ensure effective and economic efficiency.   Anticipates logistics problems related to operational areas and environmental human factors, then determines and executes contingency requirements and solutions.  Mentors the Supervisory staff.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Project Management Practices

  • Possess a solid understanding of project scope, and how to develop an effective work breakdown structure.
  • Strong analytical skills to:
    • Create and execute project work plans based on schedules.
    • Revises work plans, as needed, to meet changing needs and requirements.
    • Resolve operational and technical issues.
    • Ensure the projects maximum efficiency.
  • Identifies resources needed and assigns individual responsibilities.
  • Interacts with Building/Property Management to schedule loading dock/elevator usage
  • Identifies project risk and develops plans to resolve or mitigate company exposure.
  • Manage the delivery of multiple contract deliverables including:
    1. Periodic reporting on financial status of project progress
    2. Attending/Reviewing Project Briefings and Demonstrations
  • Review deliverables prepared by team before passing to client 
  • Ensure project documents are complete, current and stored appropriately
  • Act as liaison with customer, operations and administrative staff to maintain delivery schedules and overall maintenance of daily procedures. 
  • Able to establish and maintain a strong customer focused working relationship.
  • Responsible for supporting new business development by acquiring follow-on business associated with assigned projects/programs.
  • Knowledge of proper packaging and handling techniques for high value products.
  • Assist in development and deployment of commercial relocation training program
  • Travels to out of town project sites, as needed.

Communication

  • Assists in facilitating logistic team and client meetings
  • Holds regular and semi-regular status meetings with logistics team
  • Keep the onsite logistics team well informed of changes within the project 
  • Effectively communicate relevant project information to the onsite logistics team
  • Resolve or escalate onsite issues in a timely fashion

Technical Understanding

  • Possess a thorough understanding of our operational and technical capabilities
  • Maintains an awareness of new and emerging technologies and the potential application on client engagements
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret building/floor plans.  

Leadership

  • Challenges the logistics team in their development as leaders
  • Serves as a role model and mentor to the onsite logistics team
  • Inspire co-workers to attain goals and pursue excellence
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and makes constructive suggestions for change

Teamwork

  • Consistently acknowledge and appreciate each team member's contributions.
  • Effectively utilize each team member to his/her fullest potential
  • Motivates the team to work together in the most efficient manner
  • Documents and tracks of lessons learned and share those lessons with the logistics team
  • Mitigates team conflicts and communication problems on project sites

Client Management

  • Manages day-to-day client interaction
  • Set and manage client expectations
  • Communicate effectively with clients to identify needs and evaluate alternative business solutions
  • Continually seek opportunities to increase client satisfaction and deepen client relationships

Internal Operations

  • Suggest areas for improvement in our internal processes, and possible solutions
  • Assists in leading onsite internal teams/task forces
  • Complies with and helps to enforce standards policies and procedures

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or equivalent, or a minimum of three (3) years of industry related experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English. 
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret contract documents, work plan documents, building/floor plans, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.        
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.   Ability to compute rate, ratio, averages, percentages and interpret bar graphs.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

COMPUTER SKILLS

Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point.  A working knowledge of Asset Management Inventory Systems and Microsoft Project is a plus.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGULATIONS

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or similar certification is preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain various Commercial and Federal security clearances
