It Helpdesk Associate information

What is an IT Helpdesk Associate?

IT Helpdesk Associates are professionals who provide technical support and assistance to users experiencing hardware, software, or network issues. They act as the first point of contact for troubleshooting problems, answering questions, and resolving technical concerns either remotely or in person. Their responsibilities often include installing and configuring computer systems, diagnosing faults, and guiding users through step-by-step solutions. IT Helpdesk Associates play a crucial role in maintaining the smooth operation of an organization's IT infrastructure and ensuring user satisfaction.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be an IT Helpdesk Associate?

To thrive as an IT Helpdesk Associate, you need strong troubleshooting skills, foundational IT knowledge, and often a relevant degree or CompTIA A+ certification. Familiarity with ticketing systems, remote desktop tools, and operating systems like Windows and macOS is typically required. Excellent communication, patience, and problem-solving abilities help you effectively assist users and manage stressful situations. These skills and qualities are crucial for quickly resolving technical issues, ensuring user satisfaction, and maintaining smooth IT operations.

What challenges does an IT Helpdesk Associate face when supporting end-users, and how can they manage them?

IT Helpdesk Associates often encounter challenges such as handling high volumes of support requests, addressing users with varying levels of technical proficiency, and troubleshooting a wide range of hardware and software issues under time constraints. Effectively managing these challenges requires strong communication skills, patience, and the ability to prioritize tasks based on urgency. Building a solid knowledge base, documenting solutions, and collaborating closely with other IT team members can also help streamline support and improve resolution times.

We are seeking a versatile Facility Security & IT Specialist to oversee physical security, access control, baseline IT operations, and localized project management for a secure facility. This role bridges physical security, technical support, and project coordination, ensuring that all facility perimeters, secure workspaces, and technical deployments remain on schedule, fully compliant, and operational.

Key Responsibilities

SCIF & Facility Security

SCIF Operations: Manage the daily operations of the Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) in strict accordance with ICD-705 and NISPOM standards.

Access Control: Administer facility access control systems (ACS), issue badging, manage intrusion detection systems (IDS), and enforce visitor escort procedures.

Secure Logistics Support: Oversee physical security protocols tailored to logistics consolidation and rack infrastructure integration workflows, ensuring all sub-components and hardware remain secure throughout the intake and integration process.

Basic IT & Telephony

Desktop Support: Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 support for users across unclassified networks.

Systems Onboarding: Set up IT equipment, workstations, and communication devices for new personnel and secure conference rooms. Oversee facility cabling and cable management.

Project Management

Vendor & Implementation Tracking: Coordinate with external vendors, integrators, and internal stakeholders to track the installation and upgrade of facility security systems, IT infrastructure, and rack deployments.

Timeline & Resource Management: Maintain project schedules for facility build-outs, SCIF accreditations, and hardware staging, ensuring milestones are met without disrupting daily operations.

Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate project documentation, compliance records, and budget tracking for facility-level IT and security enhancements.

Required Qualifications

Active TS/SCI and ability to maintain access as required by the program. A polygraph is preferred.

3-5+ years of experience in physical security, facility management, or serving as a Contractor Special Security Officer (CSSO) / FSO in a DoD or Intelligence Community environment.

1-3 years of practical experience coordinating technical or physical security projects (CAPM, CompTIA Project+, or PMP certification is a plus).

Hands-on experience administering enterprise access control software (e.g., Lenel, CCURE) and providing basic IT helpdesk or telephony support.

Deep understanding of ICD-705 construction and operational standards, as well as general physical security threat mitigation.
