What does an IT Analyst do?

An IT Analyst is responsible for evaluating and improving an organization’s information technology systems. They analyze current processes, identify technology solutions, and recommend upgrades or changes to meet business needs. IT Analysts work closely with various departments to ensure IT systems align with organizational goals, troubleshoot issues, and help implement new technologies. Their role often involves project management, system testing, and user training.

What Is an IT Analyst?

An IT analyst creates an information system designed to optimize organizational productivity and efficiency. As an information technology (IT) analyst or systems analyst, your job duties are to consult with management regarding business priorities, use data collection and modeling to identify target areas for improvement, and collaborate with developers and other colleagues to implement impactful solutions. You need excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills to be a successful IT analyst.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an IT Analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as an IT Analyst, you need strong analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, and a solid understanding of information systems and business processes, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with data analysis tools, SQL databases, and IT service management systems like ITIL is typically required, with certifications such as CompTIA or ITIL being advantageous. Excellent communication, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with diverse teams are standout soft skills in this role. These skills are crucial for effectively identifying technical solutions, supporting business objectives, and ensuring smooth IT operations.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

An IT analyst typically earns less than $10,000 per month without a degree, as high salaries in tech often require specialized skills, certifications, or experience. However, some freelance or consulting roles in IT, such as cybersecurity consultants or network architects, can reach or exceed this income level with extensive expertise and a strong professional reputation.

What are some common challenges IT Analysts face when supporting cross-departmental projects?

IT Analysts often work with multiple departments to gather requirements and implement technology solutions, which can present challenges such as managing conflicting priorities, translating technical needs for non-technical stakeholders, and ensuring clear communication between teams. Balancing these demands requires strong interpersonal skills and adaptability. IT Analysts are frequently called upon to mediate between business objectives and technical constraints, ensuring that project deliverables align with organizational goals while maintaining system integrity.

Job description

Information Technology Analyst
Be the go-to problem solver who keeps our systems running and our business moving.
At KI Industries, Inc., an employee-owned (ESOP) manufacturer of decorative plastic injection-molded and die-cast components, we believe culture and performance go hand in hand. Our workplace is built on ownership, trust, respect and accountability-where employees are empowered to do meaningful work and win together.
Being named Plastics News Best Places to Work nine years in a row isn't luck-it's the result of how we show up for our people and our customers.
We're looking for an IT Analyst who thrives at the intersection of technology and operations. This role isn't just about fixing issues, it's about improving systems, supporting users, and driving efficiency across the entire organization.
What You'll Own
  • Act as a key partner to the IT Director across infrastructure, applications, security, and user support
  • Support and optimize our ERP system (IQMS) across multiple business functions
  • Troubleshoot production and system issues, perform root cause analysis, and solve problems that matter
  • Build and modify reports (Crystal Reports / SQL) to support business decisions
  • Lead system improvements, upgrades, and IT-related projects
  • Support end users-hardware, software, and training-to achieve their best work
  • Manage and resolve ERP help tickets and system issues
  • Partner with third-party IT providers to ensure seamless support
  • Travel to KI Asia & KI Mexico (Queretaro) as needed, approximately 10-20%

What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in IT, business systems, or help desk environments
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills (you don't just fix problems-you figure out the why)
  • Experience with ERP systems, reporting tools, and SQL
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
What We Offer
  • A high-impact role with real influence on company growth
  • A hybrid work schedule
  • Employee ownership (ESOP) so your contributions build long-term value
  • Comprehensive compensation and benefits package
  • A high-accountability, low-politics environment where results are recognized
  • A people-first culture with meaningful engagement programs
  • Significant ability to develop and grow within the organization
Bonus Points If You Have
  • Manufacturing experience (inventory, planning, scheduling, quality, etc.)
  • Experience with IQMS
  • Background in system implementations or process improvements
  • Knowledge of infrastructure, networking, and enterprise systems (Active Directory, DNS, etc.)
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish to help support our operations in Queretaro, Mexico

Why This Role Matters
You'll play a critical role in keeping our business running efficiently, supporting systems that impact everything from production to decision-making. If you like solving real-world problems and making a visible impact, this is your seat at the table.
