Your Recipe for Impact - What You'll Do
As a Human Resources Systems Specialist, you'll help power the technology and processes that support our Whataburger Family Members every day. You'll serve as a key partner in optimizing Workday HCM, translating business needs into scalable solutions, and ensuring our HR systems operate efficiently, accurately, and effectively across the organization.
In this role, you'll Make a Difference by delivering system enhancements and insights that improve the employee experience. You'll Serve with Heart by providing trusted support and guidance to stakeholders and end users. You'll Win as One by collaborating across Human Resources, Information Technology, and business teams to solve complex challenges and drive results. And you'll Move Forward Boldly by identifying opportunities for innovation, continuous improvement, and technology-driven solutions that help Whataburger grow.
Day-to-Day Ingredients - Responsibilities
As a Human Resources Systems Specialist, you will:
  • Configure, maintain, and optimize Workday HCM and related modules
  • Partner with stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver system solutions
  • Analyze business processes and recommend technology improvements
  • Develop and maintain Workday reports, dashboards, and analytics
  • Troubleshoot system issues and provide Tier 2/Tier 3 support
  • Support system integrations and interfaces with third-party vendors
  • Lead testing efforts for enhancements, updates, and issue resolution
  • Document business requirements, process flows, and system configurations
  • Monitor system performance and recommend improvements and best practices
  • Collaborate with HR, IT, and functional teams on projects and initiatives
  • Identify risks, troubleshoot issues, and escalate when appropriate
  • Support implementation, training, and change management activities
  • Ensure data integrity, system stability, and operational effectiveness

What You Bring to the Table - Required Experience
As a Human Resources Systems Specialist, you must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Information Systems, or related field; equivalent experience considered
  • 2+ years of hands-on Workday HCM administration and support experience
  • Experience supporting one or more Workday modules, such as Core HCM, Recruiting, Payroll, Benefits, Talent, Learning, Compensation, Time Tracking, or Reporting
  • Experience gathering business requirements and translating them into system solutions
  • Experience testing, troubleshooting, and resolving system issues
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
  • Experience creating reports, dashboards, or data-driven insights
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to build effective partnerships across departments and stakeholder groups
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel

Extra Toppings - Desired Experience
As a Human Resources Systems Specialist, we prefer you to have:
  • Workday certification(s)
  • Experience with Workday Business Process configuration
  • Experience with Workday Security Administration
  • Experience with Workday Reporting, Prism, or Advanced Reporting
  • Experience supporting Workday integrations, EIBs, Core Connectors, or Workday Studio
  • Knowledge of HR systems implementation or optimization projects
  • SQL, database, or data reporting experience
  • Experience in a multi-site, retail, restaurant, or hospitality environment
  • Experience creating training materials and end-user documentation
  • Knowledge of HR technology trends and best practices

Where & How You'll Work
This role is based at the San Antonio Home Office, working on-site Monday through Thursday with remote flexibility on Fridays. In this role, you'll have strong collaboration with leadership, across cross-functional teams, and with external partners to align capabilities with restaurant realities. The work environment is fast-paced and requires sound judgment, strategic thinking, and strong collaboration skills. Full-time availability is required, with occasional extended hours based on business needs, along with occasional travel to properties, project sites, and external meetings. Candidates must reside within commuting distance of the San Antonio Home Office.
