Job description

Introduction

The mission of the Division of Transportation Solutions is to provide excellence in transportation by developing, constructing and maintaining the State's infrastructure in a manner that results in a safe, cost-effective, and efficient multi-modal transportation network that enhances mobility commerce, and livability. Summary Statement

Responsibilities include maintenance work on traffic signal\r\nand Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) devices. Candidate will install,\r\nmodify, test, troubleshoot, repair traffic control signals, communications, and\r\nITS field devices. Other duties include repair of internal cabinet equipment,\r\nessential electrical devices, and ITS equipment. This position will ship,\r\norder, receive, and inventory equipment.\r\nEssential position with rotational on-call duties, respond to emergency\r\nsituations and report to duty station within 60 minutes. Must follow applicable\r\nsafety procedures, use equipment such as bucket trucks, locating equipment, and\r\nelectrical test equipment. Candidate must also be physically able to lift\r\nmaterials such as pedestrian signal poles and other traffic equipment.\r\n

Essential Functions

Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete job duties of similar kind not specifically listed here. \r\n\r\n Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and repairs a variety of intelligent transportation systems equipment. \r\n \r\n Repairs copper-wired, fiber-optic, and wireless communication systems related to intelligent transportation systems equipment.\r\n \r\n Tests intelligent transportation systems equipment using detection software and a variety of testing devices such as multi-meters, meggars, GPS equipment, and oscilloscopes. \r\n \r\n Interprets blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams for the purpose of diagnosing intelligent transportation systems equipment. \r\n \r\n Applies the standards, principles, and practices of the department safety manual, the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and the National Electrical Code. \r\n \r\n Responds to emergencies relating to problems and situations involving intelligent transportation system equipment. \r\n \r\n Transfers data to and from field unit devices such as traffic signal controllers, piezoelectric axle sensors, and automatic data recorders into a computer database. \r\n \r\n Detects, locates, and marks out underground utilities. \r\n \r\n May perform field counts for traffic control and timing. \r\n \r\n Operates motorized equipment such as an aerial lift device with extended arm for purposes of repairing and replacing intelligent transportation systems equipment. \r\n\r\n

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Intelligent Transportation Systems Technician I\r\nApplicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:\r\n\r\n Knowledge of electronics or electrical installation. \r\n Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving). \r\n\r\n
