Job description

A. Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. (AMT) is seeking a highly motivated and diverse Transportation Engineer Intern (STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) to join the engineering teamย in our Richmond, VA office for the 2026 internship period. This is a paid full-time position with anticipated duration from June through August 2026 (flexible) and has the potential to transition into a Full-Time Junior Engineer Role upon graduation. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Project Managers and Team Leaders with partnerships with other engineering staff.ย 
Responsibilities
  • Support various project tasks including regulatory requirements/reviews, cost estimates, research, procurement support, etc.;
  • Perform data entry, management, evaluation, and presentation;
  • Support the preparation of reports, plans, and specifications for clients;
  • May work on field assignments as needed;
  • Will be supported by leaders, mentors, and teammates; and
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as necessary
Minimum Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years old;
  • Pursuing Bachelor or Associates Degree in Civil/Transportation Engineering or related field;
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0;
  • Has excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Possesses solid technical and problem-solving skills;
  • Self-motivated, detail oriented person;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Power Point); and
  • Honest, fun, hard-working and ready to learn and grow.

  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with engineering software applications (AutoCAD, MathCAD, Bentley Microstation, etc.) is preferred but not required.
