Athens Chick-fil-A Food Safety & Quality Internship

Position Description

Proposed Start Date: August 2026

Overview

• Report directly to Food Safety Director and Kitchen Managers

• Assist in maintaining food quality and food safety standards

• 5-10 hr/week dedicated to food safety and quality responsibilities

• 10-15 hr/week dedicated to Back of House Operations

• Paid internship – $10 to $12/hr

• Duration: One semester with the possibility to extend

• Earn 3 credit hours for FDST 3910

• Internship available at Beechwood and Barnett Shoals locations

Candidate Requirements

• Actively pursuing a degree in Food Science from the University of Georgia

• Able to work 20 hr/week, primarily between 2 PM – 10 PM

• Undergraduate students 2nd year and above preferred

Roles & Responsibilities

Food Quality (10%)

• Perform eRQAs (food quality assessments) a minimum of three times per week and share corresponding data along with recommended corrective actions in a weekly email to Food Safety Director

• Perform Mock Quality Improvement Visit one week prior to quarterly scheduled inspections and share results with Back of House Leadership

• Support Kitchen Manager by coaching fellow Team Members to maintain good food quality practices

Food Safety (20%)

• Complete SAFE Daily Critical Assessments three times per week and share corresponding data along with recommended corrective actions in a weekly email to Food Safety Director

• Earn ServSafe Manager Certification

• Complete monthly Mock Health Inspections and share data providing required corrective actions to Food Safety Director and other store leaders

• Complete 6.10.2.6.10 Food Safety Checklist at least 3 times per week and take required corrective actions – Summarize findings in weekly email to Food Safety Director

• Collaborate with Food Safety Director in developing and enhancing food safety systems in the restaurant

• Support Kitchen Manager by coaching fellow Team Members to maintain good food safety practices

Professional Development (10%)

• Prepare weekly email updates for Food Safety Director summarizing food quality and safety findings and corrective actions taken

• Routine meetings and professional development with Food Safety Director

Operations (50%)

• Work as a Back of House Team Member 10-15 hr/week

• Model excellent food safety and food quality practices while working in operations

• Provide feedback and innovation to management in regard to improving food safety and quality in the restaurant
