JOB SUMMARY
The Point of Care Testing (POCT) Specialist is responsible for the planning, developing, organizing, maintaining, and enforcing Point of Care policies and procedures throughout the NCH Healthcare System. The POCT Specialist will work collaboratively with the Point of Care Committee, Department Directors, and Senior Leadership to evaluate the need for testing. The POCT Specialist will proactively maintain Point of Care compliance, performing method validations prior to implementation and working with the nurse educators to provide proper training and competency for all procedures. The POCT Specialist is responsible for the review of all quality control and coordinates all proficiency testing activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

โ€ข Coordinates the POCT activities at all NCH Healthcare System locations and ensures compliance with CLIA, CAP, JC, OSHA, regulations and/or standards and ensures patient safety and consistency with age-specific considerations for all patients: neonates, infants, adolescents, adults and geriatrics.
โ€ข Coordinates with nursing representatives on the team and the Nurse Educators of all facilities in training and competencies for all staff using POCT.
โ€ข Monitors physician and pathologist order practices, coordinates with the Laboratory Medical Director to prevent inappropriate utilization of POCT.
โ€ข Maintains instrumentation and performs method validations as necessary.
โ€ข Maintains QA program including proficiency testing, quality control, procedures, policies, staff competency and appropriate documentation. Reports to Laboratory QM Committee.
โ€ข Investigates problems and complaints and coordinates resolution.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
โ€ข Minimum of Bachelor's Degree required in related field.
โ€ข Minimum of 1 year of experience in with point of care testing required.
โ€ข Licensed as a Medical Technologist in the State of Florida.
โ€ข Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
