Job description

Title: Quality Assurance/ Point of Care Coordinator (Healthcare)
Department: Clinical (non-nursing)
Shift: Mon-Fri 9 am - 5 pm
Position Summary
Under guidance of the Laboratory Supervisor and Medical Director, applies practical and theoretical knowledge of point of care technology as it applies to point of care testing activities. Performs other duties as assigned. Position overlaps all areas where point of care testing takes place, on-site and off-site..
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:
1. Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviours.
2. Oversees all aspects of point of care operation and testing, including training,
competency assessments, quality control review, and reporting.
3. Oversees the quality assurance and proficiency testing programs for point of care.
4. Ensures the point of care instrument interface is maintained and operational.
5. Acts as liaison between lab, nursing leadership, and office mangers as it relates to
point of care testing to assure regulatory compliance of point of care testing
personnel.
6. Review all point of care reports.
7. Ensure regulatory requirements are met regarding proper use of point of care
testing according to Joint Commission, CAP, and NYSDOH guidelines.
8. Performs require validation and verifications studies, Summarize the data, and submit to
the supervisor for review.
9. Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements
• Associate degree in medical laboratory or relevant degree required.
• New York State Medical Technologist license preferred.
• B.S. degree in Medical Technology or Laboratory Science preferred.
• 4 years of relevant experience in clinical laboratory.
• ASCP or other point of care certification preferred.

Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment
• May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital's SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital's Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
• Ability to remain stationary for extended periods of time.
• Ability to move about the lab and outside offices frequently.
• Travel to outside offices required on periodic basis, as needed.
