About the position:

We are seeking to recruit a senior infrastructure sector banker with an existing client network seeking a position within an established and successful team. This person will be a self-starter and work closely with existing team members (app. 10 people including the Head), and with other teams within the organization. The position will be focused on generating wholesale banking business in the Americas (including Latin America).

The role requires an experienced banker who can work with little or no supervision. We are responsible for sector client coverage, leading debt financings for our clients which can often be structured and complex and coordinating all cross-buy efforts on other products. Prior Infrastructure PF sector experience, a good credit grounding, and a knowledge of other wholesale banking products is essential. Given the seniority of the role, the individual would be expected to have the capability, experience and gravitas to engage at the Director/MD level with clients, be deal team leader on selected transactions as required, coordinate with other stakeholders and contribute effectively to the growth strategy for the sector/region.

About the department:

The infrastructure sector with ING Wholesale Banking has the mandate to develop wholesale banking business for ING in this sector globally. The sector team is responsible for developing business with clients in this sector by providing wholesale banking solutions including financing, advisory services, financial market solutions, transaction services and other products & services to clients through its teams based in Asia Pacific, Europe and the Americas. In the Americas region, the team is currently based in New York.

Responsibilities:

  • The infrastructure team's primary focus is providing and arranging debt financing (project and corporate level), and the provision of ancillary financial products such as M&A/debt advisory, FM, DCM placement, transaction services, and agency roles. Target clients are companies/SPVs in transportation (airports, roads, ports, transit), infrastructure fund finance (NAV), distributed energy networks and transmission, water, and social facilities sector, Energy as a Service, and other Core+ sectors. Strong focus on existing/greenfield project finance in North and South America, with the position based in New York.
  • You will be supported by Deal Teams whose responsibilities will be to prepare proposals, structure, and process credit transactions, build financial models, negotiate legal documentation, and collaborate with the advisory/FM/Debt placement teams within ING.
  • The role envisaged also encompasses leading origination efforts, assisting with deal structuring, credit analysis, taking a leadership role and guiding deal team members, leading internal approval process and legal documentation as required, and coordinating with relevant product teams to deliver multi-product solutions to clients and achieving cross-buy and return objectives.
  • Identification, development, and maintenance of close relationships with clients as primary contact. Coordinating the development of presentation material and pitches to clients leading to new mandates.
  • Helping achieve sector income, fee, cross-buy, ESG and return targets, and achieving other financial / non-financial KPIs.
  • Providing direction and leadership to deal teams, including ensuring efficient allocation of resources and support in execution. Overseeing client marketing and transaction origination & execution, taking a lead role when required.
  • Identify and monitor developments and opportunities within the Americas Infra sector. Continuously build knowledge on the sector, competitors, products, and macroeconomic trends/ issues and contribute to ING strategic initiatives.
  • Ongoing coaching and mentoring to team members, ensuring proactive performance and personal development to instill a strong performance culture and help achieve results.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Graduate or post-graduate degree holder in Business/Finance/Economics/Engineering or other relevant disciplines
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of investment / corporate banking experience (or another relevant field).
  • Thought leader in the Infra/project finance sector(s) and deep, established client and sponsor relationships in the US/Americas
  • Experience in structuring and deal execution in Infra transactions in corporate/investment banking
  • Sound knowledge of credit, financial models, and loans documentation, including training and developing junior talent
  • Solid history in origination and cross-selling other products like financial markets, DCM, M&A advisory and transaction services
  • Strong analytical, presentation, leadership, and communication skills.
  • An effective team player with good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High level of self-motivation.
  • Series SIE, 79/63 required or to be obtained shortly after start

Salary Range: $250,000-325,000
