Job description

Position Summary

The Director of Human Resources directs and coordinates all activities related to the Human Resources function across the organization. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring HR policies, programs, and initiatives to ensure legal compliance, promote organizational effectiveness, and support a healthy, inclusive workplace culture. The Director provides leadership and strategic guidance to HR staff and senior management in all HR matters, including employee relations, compliance, benefits administration, performance management, and organizational development.

Schedule: Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm (40hrs)Pay range: $70,000 - $75,000/annuallyEssential Job Functions
  • Develop and advise senior leadership on policies and programs affecting all aspects of HR management.
  • Monitor personnel actions to ensure full compliance with applicable federal, state, and agency-specific regulations and internal policies.
  • Inform executive leadership of critical HR activities, workforce trends, and risk areas.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor the organization’s Affirmative Action Plan. Serve as the Affirmative Action Officer.
  • Ensure all operations are free from discrimination and bias; promote compliance with EEO, ADA, FMLA, and other employment regulations.
  • Administer and oversee the organization’s benefit programs (health, dental, life, disability, retirement).
  • Oversee workers’ compensation, unemployment claims, and leave of absence requests.
  • Manage recruiting and hiring processes to ensure attraction and retention of qualified candidates.
  • Plan and facilitate comprehensive new employee onboarding and orientation.
  • Oversee staff recognition, employee engagement, and team-building initiatives.
  • Direct the agency’s performance appraisal system.
  • Conduct and coordinate internal investigations related to harassment, discrimination, and employee complaints.
  • Co-chair the agency’s Safety Committee.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Human Resources.
  • Provide oversight, leadership, and professional development for all Human Resources staff, including HR Generalists, Recruitment, Administrative Assistants, and department support staff.
  • Manage HR departmental workload and staff performance to ensure effective service delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Management, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of professional progressive experience in Human Resources, including at least 2 years in a leadership capacity. Nonprofit management experience is strongly preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of employment laws and regulations including EEO, ADA, FMLA, PFML, and MA-specific statutes.
  • Experience administering benefit programs and HR compliance reporting.
  • Proven ability to manage sensitive employee relations matters with professionalism, confidentiality, and sound judgment.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and analytical skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex HR concepts clearly.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook), HRIS systems, and applicant tracking tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a respectful, inclusive, and equitable workplace environment.
