As a Health Information Management Assistant, you will carry out our Mission of Love by supporting the organization, maintenance and confidentiality of health records.

Our Health Information Management Assistant is responsible for the following:

  • Monitors clinical information security, and handles the clinical information release process, in accordance with established legal guidelines, HIPAA regulations and Masonic Village policies and procedures.
  • Communicates with residents to facilitate the long term care process and records requests, as needed.
  • Accurately completes and processes Medical Assistance forms and maintains tracking data as needed. Completes data entry and otherwise processes information concurrently to provide data for reimbursement, statistical trending, quality care review and other miscellaneous functions in a timely manner.
  • Prioritize workload to ensure most urgent matters completed in timely fashion.
  • Assists to process the clinical records upon admission and discharge. Completes workflow in EHR for admission and discharge according to current policies and procedures. Performs follow-up and maintains concurrent tracking data for incomplete records.
  • Provides clerical support to the HIM Department, as needed. Answers phones, picks up, sorts, reviews, organizes mail and email, and distributes mail. Maintains supplies for the HIM area. Assists in maintaining a work environment conducive to productivity and safety.
  • Maintains personal competence by reading, attending educational programs and meetings as required or requested.
  • Assists as needed in other duties within scope of HIM practice, responsibility and authority.
  • Assists with the training of staff, and provides back up and support to peers as necessary, in the essential functions of this job description.

What You Need as a Health Information Management Assistant:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Graduate of a Medical Secretary or comparable program preferred.
  • AHIMA Registered Health Information Technician (R.H.I.T.), Registered Health Information Administrator (R.H.I.A.) Certified Coding Specialist (C.C.S.) or 2 years experience in a medical office environment, specific experience in a long term care setting, with demonstrated technical abilities, is preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology and disease processes.
  • Ability to use telephone, copier, fax machine, computer and standard office equipment.
  • A positive attitude and the ability to interact well with individuals of all educational and experience backgrounds is required.
