Job description

About Etched

Etched is building hardware for frontier intelligence. We co-design chips, racks, software, and manufacturing to deliver best-in-class throughput and latency across both prefill and decode workloads. Our first products are heavily focused on inference. Backed by hundreds of millions from top-tier investors and staffed by leading engineers, Etched is redefining the infrastructure layer for the fastest growing industry in history.

Job Summary

As our first hire on the technical accounting and financial reporting team, you will be a key architect behind some of our most critical accounting initiatives. From implementing our revenue, inventory, and warranty policies, to building our external financial reporting capability from 0 to 1, we are looking for a driven and talented accounting lead to execute on some of our most important day-to-day financial operations.

You will work closely with the leadership across go-to-market, finance, and legal to build out our deal desk playbook to execute novel structures and ensure the company can continue to scale with accurate, compliant, and well-supported financial statements. This is a high-trust role that will require end-to-end ownership over key strategic projects. We’re looking for the type of individual that is constantly looking to improve existing processes and do deep research on high leverage projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end revenue accounting policies under ASC 606 (or IFRS 15), including review of complex contracts, multiple performance obligations, variable consideration, and non-standard deal terms

  • Partner with Go-to-market, Legal, and the Deal Desk function to assess revenue treatment for new products, bundled offerings, and non-standard contracts before deals close

  • Ensure Netsuite’s Advanced Revenue Management (ARM) is implemented in accordance with technical guidance and compliant with all internal and external accounting standards

  • Research and document the company's position on complex and emerging accounting issues (e.g., R&D NRE, leases, stock-based compensation, debt/equity instruments, impairments)

  • Draft technical memos and accounting position papers for review by controller and external auditors

  • Provide guidance on Inventory, Cost of Sales, Warranty Technical accounting guidance and serve as the internal subject matter expert on technical accounting matters

  • Lead preparation of external financial statements and footnote disclosures (10-K/10-Q if public, or audited financials if private)

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP/IFRS, SEC reporting requirements (if applicable), and internal accounting policies

  • Sign-off on the quarterly and annual close process as it relates to revenue and technical accounting areas

  • Own Equity related financial reporting: tool selection, data conversion, financial reporting related to Equity

  • Build, manage, and develop a team of revenue and technical accounting professionals

  • Strengthening internal controls (SOX, if applicable) related to revenue and financial reporting

You may be a good fit if you have

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA required

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant time in public accounting (Big 4 preferred) and/or a corporate technical accounting/revenue role

  • Deep expertise in ASC 606 and broad technical accounting knowledge across multiple areas of GAAP

  • Experience with SEC reporting and public company requirements strongly preferred

  • Prior people management experience, with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex accounting concepts for non-accounting stakeholders

Strong candidates may also have experience with

  • Experience building the technical accounting and financial reporting function from 0 to 1 at a high-growth, venture-backed company.

  • Experience in inventory accounting, manufacturing cost accounting, and hardware revenue recognition, including warranty reserves, NRE, and complex customer contracts.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision packages with generous premium coverage

    • $500 per month credit for waiving medical benefits

  • Housing subsidy of $2k per month for those living within walking distance of the office

  • Relocation support for those moving to San Jose (Santana Row)

  • Various wellness benefits covering fitness, mental health, and more

  • Daily lunch and dinner in our office

  • Unlimited compute budget subject to ROI justification

How we’re different

Etched believes in the Bitter Lesson. We are the first inference-focused frontier AI system. Our addressable market is the entirety of inference, unlike many of our competitors.

We are a fully in-person team in San Jose (Santana Row), and greatly value engineering skills. We do not have boundaries between engineering and research, and we expect all of our technical staff to contribute to both and work across disciplines as needed.
