Job Description

The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) is a federally funded program that teaches low-incomefamilieshowtopreparehealthymealson abudgetandengageinmorephysical activitiestoreducetherisk of chronic disease. TheEFNEPSupervisor/Research Associate I/II contributes to the management of EFNEP, staff development of EFNEPpeer (paraprofessional) educators and the development and maintenance of program materials. This position will be housed in the Denver metro area and serves as an EFNEP Supervisor and assists with EFNEP related research projects. A successful candidate will bring experience that provides evidence of drive and initiative; the individual in this position must be a self-starter.EFNEPSupervisor responsibilities include providing training and direct supervision forEFNEPpeer educators in multiple Colorado counties within the Denver metro region, leading the implementation of approved nutrition education programs following EFNEP guidelines to ensure program fidelity and success and building successful and sustainable relationships with professionals from agencies such as WIC, SNAP, TANF, public housing, K12 schools and others, to establishEFNEPpeer educator recruitment and teaching opportunities. Research support responsibilities include monitoring the implementation of research project protocols and assisting with data collection. This position supports theEFNEPCoordinator with curricula maintenance, EFNEP work plan development and grant reporting, and other duties as assigned. The classification of Research Associate I or IIwill be determined by qualifications and experience.

    Essential Job Duties:
    • Supervision of EFNEP Educators

      • Provides leadership and coordination of the activities necessary to recruit, interview, hire and trainCSUExtensionEFNEPpeer educators;

      • Observes and assesses peer educators to evaluate their teaching ability and the fidelity of the intervention with program participants;

      • AddressesEFNEPpeer educator questions related to nutrition and public health related content, program procedures, protocols, fidelity, and reporting and coaches EFNEPpeer educators to ensure effective program delivery to diverse audiences and that program outcomes are met and are in compliance with University, Extension, and federalEFNEPguidelines.

      • Creates sustainable relationships with local agencies to ensure effective program delivery to diverse limited-resource audiences.

    • Training and Program Material Development

      • Regularly conducts EFNEP programming assessment (observes participant recruitment and EFNEP Peer Educator teaching, monitors peer educator reporting, and solicits CSU Extension County Director and community agency partner feedback) to identify staff development needs;

      • Develops and delivers regular staff updates using innovative delivery approaches (electronic, video, etc.) in approved curricula, program protocols and procedures, and adult learning theory.

    • Program Marketing/Professional Networking

      • Develops relationships at the county level that work with audiences of low-income to enhance collaboration and promote EFNEP enrollment;

      • Promotes and creates awareness of CSU Extension and EFNEP via presentations, public speaking engagements, press releases and interviews with local media.

    • Administrative Duties

      • Works with EFNEP Coordinator to develop program policies and procedures as needed. Develops strategies to inform and implement changes with EFNEPpeer educators.

    • Research Support

      • Assists with training EFNEP peer educators and research project staff on research methods and protocols and conducts fidelity assessments of research project implementation.

    Conditions of Employment:

    3 to 7 EFNEP peer educators

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Research Associate I:Completed bachelor's degree with emphasis in human nutrition or related field and up to 3 years relevant experience.

    • Research Associate II:Completed bachelor's degree with emphasis in human nutrition or related field and more than 3 years relevant experience.

    AND

    • Demonstrated skill working with people as individuals and in groups

    • Ability to communicate (oral, written and listening skills) as demonstrated by formal training, experience, and application materials

    • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills

    • Experience delivering and/or managing a community or educational program

    • Familiarity with different socio-economic audiences, an interest in working with people from diverse backgrounds

    • Ability to work non-traditional hours occasionally (weekends and evenings)

    • Must have a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain a driver's license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date

    • Ability to travel across Denver metro counties (up to 5 days a week)

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Completed master's degree with emphasis in human nutrition or related field

    • Experience in Public Health and/or Nutrition Education program planning, implementation, and evaluation, targeting diverse, limited resource audiences

    • Prior experience hiring, training, supervising, motivating, and coaching peer (paraprofessional) educators

    • Experience in promoting, marketing, or creating public awareness of programs or services

    • Training and/or experience in research methods, data collection and/or program evaluation

    • Experience in securing financial support for educational programs including in-kind contributions, cost sharing, fundraising, etc.

    • Registered Dietitian

    • Ability to speak Spanish
