These competencies ensure organizations remain compliant, uphold integrity, and achieve strategic objectives in a complex regulatory environment.

How does a professional in a Governance role typically interact with other departments to ensure compliance and risk management?

In a Governance role, collaboration with various departments is essential to ensure that organizational policies, compliance requirements, and risk management strategies are effectively implemented. You can expect to work closely with legal, finance, operations, and IT teams to align processes with regulatory standards and organizational goals. Regular meetings, training sessions, and audits are common, allowing you to provide guidance, monitor adherence, and address any gaps proactively. This cross-functional approach not only fosters a culture of accountability but also helps identify and mitigate risks before they escalate.

It includes establishing frameworks for decision-making, risk management, and accountability, often requiring skills in policy development, auditing, and stakeholder communication.

Job description

Datavant is the data collaboration platform trusted for healthcare. Guided by our mission to make the world's health data secure, accessible and actionable, we provide critical data solutions for organizations across the healthcare ecosystem - including providers, health plans, researchers, and life sciences companies. From fulfilling a single patient's request for their medical records to powering the AI revolution in healthcare, Datavanters are building the future of how data is connected and used to improve health.
By joining Datavant today, you're stepping onto a driven and highly collaborative team that is passionate about creating transformative change in healthcare.
The Business Intelligence & Analytics function within Datavant Product is actively seeking a Data Governance Analyst to strengthen our Enterprise Data Governance and Master Data Management (MDM) capabilities. This pillar focuses on building a scalable and trusted data foundation that establishes clear ownership, consistent definitions, and a governed single source of truth across provider, payer, life sciences, legal & insurance, and finance domains.
In this role, you will help operationalize Datavant's governance and MDM practices by partnering cross-functionally to improve how master data, metadata, and stewardship workflows are managed across systems. If you thrive at the intersection of business strategy, data architecture, and compliance, and enjoy driving alignment across technical and non-technical teams, we would love to hear from you.
You Will:
  • Partner & Define Strategy
    • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to support governance and MDM initiatives aligned to business and operational priorities.
    • Contribute to stewardship processes, governance standards, and change management practices that improve consistency and trust in governed data assets.
    • Support governance KPIs and operational reporting that measure data quality, ownership, and adoption.
  • Drive MDM Initiatives
    • Own governance workflows and metadata practices for one or more domains, including lineage coordination, dependency tracking, and operational stewardship activities.
    • Contribute to metadata standards, glossary governance, and lineage documentation in partnership with Platform and BI&A teams.
    • Support adoption of governance tooling and stewardship practices that improve discoverability, accountability, and operational consistency.
  • Support Controls & Governance Frameworks
    • Contribute to governance controls, remediation workflows, and stewardship accountability processes for governed domains.
    • Partner with Infrastructure, Platform, and BI&A teams to support operational governance requirements and trusted data practices.
    • Support governance and compliance initiatives by improving consistency, traceability, and operational accountability for governed data assets.
  • Drive Organizational Adoption
    • Coordinate governance activities across stakeholders and help operationalize governance processes within business domains.
    • Communicate the operational value of governance initiatives through documentation, enablement, and stakeholder engagement.
    • Balance short-term governance needs with scalable process improvements that improve trust and operational efficiency.

What You Will Bring to the Table:
  • Governance & Domain Expertise
    • Strong understanding of Master Data Management, metadata management, reference data, and governance frameworks in multi-domain environments.
    • Experience operationalizing canonical data models, stewardship operating models, and governance policies within governed domains and workflows.
    • Familiarity with metadata catalog tools such as Atlan and enterprise lineage practices.
  • Systems & AI Foundations
    • Working knowledge of modern data architectures and how governance integrates with data engineering and analytics workflows.
    • Foundational understanding of AI-assisted governance, entity resolution concepts, and how automation can support trusted MDM processes.
    • Ability to partner effectively with technical teams while maintaining governance accountability and operational consistency.
  • Business Acumen & Communication
    • Demonstrated ability to translate governance requirements into clear business value narratives.
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to distill governance concepts for technical, operational, and business audiences.
    • Proven ability to manage priorities and drive accountability across matrixed stakeholders.
  • Mindset & Experience
    • Strategic and systems-oriented thinker with strong operational discipline and attention to process consistency.
    • Experience independently driving governance initiatives or operational data management workflows across one or more domains.
    • 4-6+ years of experience in data governance, MDM, analytics, operations, or related enterprise data roles.

Bonus Points If You Have:
  • Experience in healthcare, life sciences, or regulated data environments.
  • Experience standing up or maturing enterprise data governance programs.
  • Exposure to entity resolution systems or AI-assisted data quality workflows.
  • Experience supporting data privacy, classification, or retention initiatives.
