Working full-time in human rights can be deeply rewarding but also challenging. Position Summary...What you'll do...Role summary:
The Director, Strategic Initiatives – Human Rights and Livelihoods leads strategy, design, and execution of high-impact initiatives that improve conditions for workers and producers across global supply chains, while integrating environmental sustainability into livelihoods and production systems.
This role sits at the intersection of human rights, livelihoods, and resilient production systems, with particular focus on agriculture and produce supply chains. The Director serves as an integrator for the enterprise approach for Human Rights and Livelihoods, leads a philanthropic investment portfolio, and serves as a strategic advisor to key business partners—translating enterprise commitments into practical, scalable strategies, partnerships, and measurable impact.
About the team:
We work to reshape systems to deliver durable improvements for people and the planet—driving shared value with the business while catalyzing broader sector change through philanthropy.
This is a highly strategic and execution-oriented role, requiring strong conceptual thinking, comfort with complexity, and a bias toward action. This role provides portfolio‑level direction and coherence across the Human Rights & Livelihoods body of work, working closely with other team members who own strategy and execution within defined systems and geographies.
What you'll do:
  • Define and lead a multi-year strategy for human rights and livelihoods including forced labor and responsible recruitment.
  • Own strategy and execution for how human rights, livelihoods, climate and nature issues (e.g., climate-smart agriculture, integrated pest management, water stewardship, soil health, biodiversity) are addressed across produce value chains.
  • Develop clear theories of change, decision criteria, and success metrics that guide philanthropic investments and influence business action.
  • Lead a portfolio of philanthropic investments including partner selection, performance management, learning, and adaptation.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor, helping translate human rights and livelihoods priorities into practical business-relevant strategies.
  • Synthesize complex information into clear, executive-ready narratives.

What you'll bring:
  • Demonstrated experience in strategy, program leadership, sustainability, responsible sourcing, human rights, livelihoods, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives with measurable outcomes.
  • Strong ability to structure ambiguous problems and translate them into clear strategies and execution plans.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including executive-level synthesis.
  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and work effectively across teams.
  • Deep experience in human rights, environmental issues, livelihoods, or worker well-being in global supply chains—paired with a practical, solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Familiarity with relevant issue frameworks and multi-stakeholder collaboration.
  • Experience designing impact measurement approaches and using data to inform strategy.
