About the role
The Mechanical Sales Engineer is responsible for driving business development and expanding TNC Services' Mechanical and Turbine Services portfolio throughout the commercial nuclear power industry, as well as other power generation and industrial markets. This role is focused on identifying new business opportunities, developing strategic customer relationships, and securing new maintenance, outage, and capital project work involving steam turbines, rotating equipment, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, field machining, welding, precision maintenance, mechanical maintenance, and skilled workforce solutions.
Working closely with utility leadership, maintenance organizations, engineering groups, outage managers, procurement teams, EPC contractors, and industrial customers, this individual will serve as a trusted technical advisor by understanding customer needs and developing customized service solutions that improve equipment reliability, outage performance, and long-term asset management.
The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in commercial nuclear mechanical maintenance, turbine services, rotating equipment, or industrial maintenance combined with demonstrated success developing customer relationships and securing new business opportunities. Candidates with previous experience as a Turbine Superintendent, Turbine Field Engineer, Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor, Rotating Equipment Specialist, OEM Field Service Representative, or similar leadership role are highly encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
Business Development & Account Management
  • Develop and execute business development strategies to expand TNC Services' Mechanical and Turbine Services business.
  • Identify, pursue, and secure new maintenance, outage, and capital project opportunities within the commercial nuclear industry as well as other power generation and industrial markets.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with utility customers, maintenance organizations, engineering groups, outage managers, procurement teams, EPC contractors, and plant leadership.
  • Expand TNC Services into new utility fleets and geographic markets while strengthening existing customer relationships.
  • Develop and maintain a robust sales pipeline through prospecting, networking, customer visits, and industry engagement.
  • Manage sales opportunities from initial customer contact through contract award and project execution.
  • Support contract negotiations while ensuring customer satisfaction and long-term account growth.
  • Represent TNC Services at customer meetings, outage planning sessions, trade shows, conferences, and industry networking events.

Technical Sales & Proposal Development
  • Promote TNC Services' capabilities in steam turbine maintenance, turbine inspections, rotor services, diaphragm repairs, valve services, rotating equipment, pumps, heat exchangers, field machining, welding, mechanical maintenance, outage support, and skilled workforce solutions.
  • Conduct customer meetings, plant visits, outage planning sessions, and technical assessments to identify maintenance challenges and develop customized service solutions.
  • Partner with Operations, Project Management, and Engineering to develop scopes of work, technical proposals, cost estimates, commercial quotations, and project execution strategies.
  • Present technical solutions to maintenance, engineering, procurement, and executive leadership teams.
  • Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, competitor activities, outage schedules, and capital projects to identify new business opportunities.

Project Support
  • Collaborate with Operations, Project Management, Recruiting, and field teams to develop project scopes and execution strategies.
  • Support customers through outage planning, maintenance scheduling, and workforce planning activities.

Field Service Support (Outage Season)
  • Perform hands-on mechanical field work during scheduled plant outages as business needs require.
  • Support the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, inspection, and repair of mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Collaborate with field crews and site leadership to execute outage work safely, efficiently, and in accordance with customer schedules.
  • Ensure all field activities comply with applicable safety procedures, quality requirements, plant procedures, and regulatory standards.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Power Plant Technology, Business, or an equivalent combination of education and industry experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in business development, technical sales, commercial nuclear maintenance, turbine services, rotating equipment, industrial maintenance, or field service.
  • Strong understanding of steam turbines, rotating equipment, pumps, valves, mechanical seals, heat exchangers, precision maintenance, and outage execution.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop customer relationships and secure new business opportunities.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, engineering drawings, OEM manuals, equipment layouts, and technical specifications.
  • Experience developing technical proposals, scopes of work, estimates, and commercial quotations.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM platforms.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% throughout the United States.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access authorization for commercial nuclear power plants, as required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Commercial nuclear steam turbine maintenance experience.
  • Previous experience as a Turbine Superintendent, Turbine Field Engineer, Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor, Rotating Equipment Specialist, OEM Field Service Representative, or similar leadership role.
  • Existing relationships with utility maintenance organizations, outage managers, engineering groups, procurement teams, and plant leadership.
  • Experience supporting steam turbine inspections, rotor work, diaphragm repairs, turbine valve maintenance, field machining, welding, and specialty mechanical services.
  • Background selling industrial maintenance, turbine services, rotating equipment services, outage support, or technical field services.
  • Experience supporting utilities, combined-cycle facilities, fossil generation, hydroelectric, petrochemical, refining, pulp and paper, or other heavy industrial markets.

Work Environment & Travel
  • Hybrid role combining customer-facing business development, office-based activities, and periodic site visits.
  • Frequent travel to customer sites, industry conferences, and outage planning meetings throughout the United States.
  • Occasional field support during major outages to strengthen customer relationships and provide technical guidance.
  • Exposure to industrial and radiological environments while supporting commercial nuclear power plants and other industrial facilities.
  • Strict adherence to all safety, quality, and customer procedures.

Estimated Starting Salary RangeThe estimated starting salary range for this role is $121,000 - $143,000 annually less applicable withholdings and deductions, paid on a bi-weekly basis. The actual salary offered may vary based on relevant factors as determined in the Company's discretion, which may include experience, qualifications, tenure, skill set, availability of qualified candidates, geographic location, certifications held, and other criteria deemed pertinent to the particular role.
