Job description

JAS is an international, non-asset-based supply chain services and solutions company. Our services include air and ocean freight forwarding, contract logistics, customs brokerage, distribution, inbound logistics, truckload brokerage and other supply chain management services, including consulting, the coordination of purchase orders and customized management services.
The Operations Manager will be responsible for all operational services, including but not limited to Imports/Exports via Air/Ocean movement, as well as warehousing, and customs brokerage oversight. This role is responsible for supporting branch operational excellence, product initiatives, while driving operational, financial, and compliance objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Technical understanding of operational functions to ensure the branch remains compliant with JAS process and procedures as well as governmental standards.
  • Meet company & customer established KPIs (Key Performance Indicators).
  • Management of KPIs by utilizing the operational and financial dashboards.
  • Responsible for managing operations distribution and workloads, to ensure client and contractual needs are met.
  • Awareness of key import and export lanes and operations processes/requirements.
  • Work closely with operations, sales, warehousing, and sales support teams to achieve the target budget.
  • Maintain and grow relationships with customers and Carriers.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Management of KPIs by utilizing the operational and financial dashboards.
  • Manage Branch Workflow initiative adherence using PowerBI dashboard to enhance staff productivity.
  • Conduct performance evaluation for direct reports.
  • Promote, enable, facilitate, and oversee the training of branch personnel, as well as confirming staff is current on training.
  • Identify and relay personnel issues to Branch Manager.
  • Ongoing coaching and mentoring of staff to develop skills to the highest level.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of Freight Forwarding operations experience, handling air/ocean product, warehousing, and customs brokerage.
  • 5+ years of prior supervisory/managerial experience.
  • Highly motivated leader who is adept at working in a competitive, challenging and fast-paced work environment.
  • Must have advanced proficiency language (written and speaking).

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 7+ years of Freight Forwarding operations experience.
  • 5+ years of prior supervisory/managerial experience.
  • Must have a firm working knowledge/experience handing air/ocean imports and exports.
  • CargoWise (C1) experience is a plus.
  • Customs Brokerage experience is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Detail oriented, able to multitask and meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, able to work in a team and independently.

ENVIRONMENT:
  • 100% performed in climate-controlled internal office environment working under normal office conditions. Travel will be (up to __ %) required in support of the position's responsibilities.
