Merchology seeks a Controller to join our Finance team. Reporting to the VP of Finance, the Controller is responsible for accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, audit management, and accounting process infrastructure.

This position oversees the integrity of Merchology's financial statements while managing accounting operations across inventory, revenue recognition, vendor transactions, and multi-channel sales and fulfillment activity. 


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful Controller will oversee: 


Financial Reporting & Close Process

  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes 
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP 
  • Prepare and maintain monthly and annual Adjusted EBITDA reporting packages, including identification, documentation, and reconciliation of non-recurring, non-operating, and other approved adjustment items
  • Manage general ledger, reconciliations, accruals, and journal entries 
  • Ensure integrity and accuracy of financial reporting and accounting records 
  • Maintain accounting policies and procedures 

Accounting Operations

  • Oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and General Accounting functions 
  • Supervise and develop accounting staff 
  • Manage daily accounting operations and transactional workflows 
  • Improve close timelines and accounting efficiency 

Inventory & Operational Accounting

  • Oversee inventory accounting across internal and external warehouses and/or fulfillment partners
  • Ensure accurate inventory valuation, reserves, landed cost allocation, and COGS reporting 
  • Reconcile inventory and sales data across ERP, e-commerce, and fulfillment systems 
  • Support gross margin accuracy and operational reporting 

Revenue Recognition & Compliance

  • Ensure proper revenue recognition across e-commerce, B2B, fulfillment, and service revenue streams 
  • Maintain accounting for returns, discounts, credits, and customer incentives 
  • Coordinate annual audit and tax processes 
  • Ensure compliance with sales tax, payroll tax, and regulatory requirements 
  • Manage internal controls and accounting compliance processes 

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Maintain ERP/accounting system integrity and workflow discipline 
  • Support accounting automation and reporting improvements 
  • Develop scalable accounting infrastructure to support company growth 
  • Partner with finance and operations leadership to improve reporting accuracy and operational visibility

Requirements

  • 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Bachelor's or associate degree in accounting or finance  
  • Proficiency with GAAP and basic principles of accounting 
  • Experience in inventory-heavy e-commerce, distribution, or consumer products business
  • Experience managing audits and financial reporting
  • Collaborative and professional interpersonal and organizational skills 
  • Advanced Skills in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems (NetSuite a plus)
