Job description

Description

About the Role

Saturday Properties is a growing real estate services platform operating five lines of business: development, property management, maintenance services, leasing services, and low voltage. We need a Controller who wants to do more than keep score - someone who wants to help build the systems, processes, and team that let this platform keep scaling.

We're looking for a leader who wants to grow with us. As Saturday Properties scales, we expect this role - and the person in it - to take on more responsibility over time. If you're excited by variety, want ownership over a full finance function, and enjoy thinking outside the box in a fast-moving business, this role is built for you.

The Team You'll Lead

The Controller owns the accounting and finance function across all five lines of business and leads the accounting team:

  • Property Accountant - dedicated to property management accounting, reporting to the Controller
  • Part-Time Accounting Support - covers the essential bookkeeping and basic accounting for maintenance services and low voltage

The Controller directly owns company-wide and development accounting, sets direction and reviews work across all five lines of business, and will build out additional resources as the business grows.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Company-Wide

  • Cash forecasting across all five lines of business
  • Manage company accounts receivable
  • Produce consolidated and by-line-of-business financial statements
  • Report monthly financial performance to the leadership team, by line of business
  • Reconciliations and management of due to / due from accounts across entities
  • Ensure a timely, accurate monthly close across all entities and lines of business
  • Coordinate with banking partners, auditors, and our third-party CPA on tax returns and other advisory needs
  • Strengthen internal controls and improve processes and systems as the company grows

Development

  • Capital account tracking
  • WIP (work-in-progress) management
  • REO schedule with valuations
  • Entity-level tracking across development deals
  • Draw management
  • Make-book management and reporting
  • Builder's risk insurance placement and tracking
  • Analysis and management of existing debt, grants, and TIF
  • Deal loss/gain projections and cash forecasting

Property Management

  • Oversight of the Property Accountant and all property-level accounting
  • New property setup
  • Cash forecasting, distributions, and contribution requests
  • Management fee calculation
  • Monthly financial statement preparation and review
  • Property disposition proration calculations
  • Audit management and strong partner/client relationships
  • Project profitability calculations

Maintenance Services

  • Oversight of essential bookkeeping and basic accounting, supported by part-time accounting staff
  • Job costing and profitability tracking for maintenance work
  • Ensure accurate, timely invoicing and cost tracking

Leasing Services

  • Financial reporting and tracking for leasing operations
  • Commission and fee accounting
  • Coordination with property management accounting on leasing-related transactions

Low Voltage

  • Oversight of essential bookkeeping and basic accounting, supported by part-time accounting staff
  • Job costing and profitability tracking for low voltage projects
  • Ensure accurate, timely invoicing and cost tracking

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, manage, and hold accountable the accounting team, including the Property Accountant and part-time accounting support
  • Build and scale the finance function as Saturday Properties grows - hire, train, and develop as needed
  • Foster strong relationships with partners, clients, and lenders
  • Bring a continuous-improvement mindset to systems, processes, and reporting across all five lines of business

 Overview

  • End-to-end ownership of accounting and financial reporting across five distinct lines of business
  • Confidence that the books are accurate and that the numbers leadership sees each month reflect reality
  • The company's cash position, budgets, and forecasts, giving leadership a clear read on where the business is headed
  • Day-to-day leadership of the accounting team, including the Property Accountant and part-time accounting support for maintenance services and low voltage
  • The relationships with banks, auditors, and our outside CPA that keep the business compliant and well-advised
  • The freedom to rebuild processes, systems, and controls where they need it - this isn't a "keep doing what's always been done" role

Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Real Estate, or a related field
  • CPA a plus, but not required
  • MBA a plus, but not required

Experience

  • 5-10 years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in a Controller-level or senior accounting role
  • Real estate, property management, or development accounting experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop an accounting team across departments
  • Strong grasp of GAAP and financial reporting, with experience managing both cash- and accrual-basis books
  • Familiarity with real estate or property management accounting software (Appfolio experience is a plus)
  • Ability to design and implement systems and processes that scale with a growing organization
  • Comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy and reporting directly to executive leadership

What Makes You a Fit

  • You're energized by variety - five lines of business means no two weeks look the same
  • You think like an owner and aren't afraid to challenge "the way it's always been done"
  • You look for ways technology, including AI tools, can make the finance function faster and more accurate
  • You want to build something, not just maintain it, and you're excited by the challenge of growing alongside the company
  • You bring sharp analytical skills, a high bar for accuracy, and clear communication with leadership and teams alike
