Job Description
Marten is expanding its international products practice and is seeking a lawyer who practices consumer products law in the European Union and the United Kingdom. We are willing to consider attorneys of varying experience, but with at least three years of practice.
This position requires substantive familiarity with European Union and United Kingdom sustainability and products law matters. The successful candidate must have experience in advising global companies on how to address the evolving regulatory environment concerning sustainability reporting, climate-related targets and disclosures, due diligence, and supply chain transparency requirements that span a broad range of sectors including apparel, footwear, textiles, outdoor gear, furniture, food products, and more.
The successful applicant will:
  • Advise global consumer product manufacturers, distributors, andretailers on their sustainability and product law matters.
  • Determine data requirements, prepare testing protocols, and preparenotifications for chemical and other material disclosure requirements.
  • Advise clients on relevant developments under REACH, EU CorporateSustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), the EU Sustainable FinanceDisclosure Regulation and the UK regimes, supply chain diligence under theEU CSRD, forced labor, deforestation, and product-related sustainabilityrequirements such as ecodesign, chemical compliance, packaging, andrecycling obligations.
  • Advise clients on market access issues including product labeling,product notifications, and green marketing.

Requirements
  • Licensed to Practice Law in the EU and/or UK.
  • Are a high performer with 3+ years of experience in globalsustainability and product law matters.
  • Are an exceptional writer, with experience as the primary author oflegal memoranda, briefs, motions, discovery, contracts, regulatoryagreements, and/or substantive policy articles and commentary.
  • Are an efficient, creative, and effective legal researcher, withexperience researching environmental, product stewardship, oradministrative law and regulatory requirements at the international level.
  • Are an effective collaborator and marketer with a passion orbuilding a practice in an emerging field.

Have substantial experience:
  • Representing private sector clients seeking to navigatesustainability and product regulatory matters;
  • Representing private sector clients in transactional,administrative, or reporting/disclosure related matters involving sustainabilityand product law.

Other Essential Job Duties
  • Marten Law attorneys must be able to regularly travel globally toaccomplish legal work (client meetings, industry conferences, and sitevisits) for our clients.
  • Our billable hour expectation is 1850 billable hours a year. Thiswill require more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential dutiesof this position. The expectation is that this person will devote, onaverage, 37+ hours a week on billable job functions and another 7+ hours aweek on non-billable activities (firm administration, marketing,professional development, newsletter articles, supervising others).

Candidates in the top 10% of their law school class or other substantial professional achievement over the course of their career
