What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Mac Endpoint Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Mac Endpoint Engineer, you need expertise in macOS systems, device management, scripting (such as Bash or Python), and a relevant degree or certifications like Apple Certified Support Professional (ACSP). Familiarity with tools like Jamf Pro, Munki, and MDM solutions is typically required to manage and secure Apple devices at scale. Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills help you effectively support end-users and work with IT teams. These capabilities ensure the secure, efficient, and reliable operation of Mac endpoints in enterprise environments.

What are some typical challenges Mac Endpoint Engineers face when managing large-scale deployments?

Mac Endpoint Engineers often encounter challenges related to ensuring consistent configuration and security compliance across hundreds or thousands of devices. Common issues include dealing with OS compatibility, managing software updates remotely, and troubleshooting user-specific problems without direct access to the device. Effective use of Mobile Device Management (MDM) solutions, strong scripting skills, and proactive communication with end-users and IT teams are essential to overcome these challenges and keep systems secure and operational.

Job description

End User Computing Engineer, AI Enablement
Remote within the United States
Contract Duration: 6 Months (potential for extension)
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and technically grounded End User Computing Engineer who is passionate about artificial intelligence. In this pivotal role, you will serve as the dedicated point of contact between the End User Computing (EUC) team and the internal AI enablement group, playing a key role in deploying, managing, and optimizing AI tools across both Mac and Windows endpoints. Your focus will be to ensure seamless integration and ongoing performance of AI applications, while maintaining engineering standards and supporting end-user productivity across a dynamic, enterprise environment.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Package, test, and deploy applications (including AI tools and productivity platforms) across Mac and Windows endpoints using SCCM, Microsoft Intune/Endpoint Manager, Autopilot, and Jamf Pro.
  • Serve as the main EUC liaison to the AI team, participating in planning sessions and reviews to stay aligned on tool requirements and deployment timelines.
  • Support the installation and configuration of enterprise AI tools on user endpoints, ensuring smooth operation and user experience.
  • Monitor, measure, and report on endpoint performance impacts related to AI applications, creating dashboards and recurring reports on resource utilization and deployment health.
  • Design and implement automated workflows for provisioning and configuring AI client software on endpoints.
  • Continuously improve standard operating environment images and deployment standards for endpoint compatibility with AI requirements.
  • Configure and enforce endpoint policies using Intune, Jamf, and Entra ID, ensuring compliance and secure access to AI tools.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on enterprise AI tools (e.g., Microsoft 365 Copilot, ChatGPT Enterprise, GitHub Copilot), supporting troubleshooting, usage guidance, and best practices for EUC and end users.
  • Serve as Tier 3 escalation for endpoint incidents related to AI applications, diagnosing and resolving issues across device and application layers.
  • Evaluate emerging AI tools, offering insights on deployment complexity, endpoint requirements, and governance considerations.
  • Maintain and update internal documentation, runbooks, and support processes for the EUC and end-user community.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (security, infrastructure, transformation) to enable secure and user-ready AI tool rollouts.
Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of professional experience in End User Computing, Desktop Engineering, or endpoint management roles.
  • Strong interest and familiarity with the enterprise AI tooling landscape, including deployment and management of AI-focused platforms.
  • Deep expertise in application packaging and deployment across both Windows and macOS (tools such as SCCM, Intune/MEM, Jamf Pro, MDT, Win32, .pkg/.dmg, etc.).
  • Advanced knowledge of modern device management, Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and endpoint security for Mac and Windows.
  • Proficiency in scripting/automation (PowerShell, Bash, Python) for deployment and device management workflows.
  • Experience monitoring and reporting on endpoint/application performance and health metrics.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting ability with AI applications at the endpoint level.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and documentation skills.
  • Experience designing and documenting repeatable IT support or provisioning workflows.
Preferred:
  • Experience in highly regulated environments (e.g., financial services).
  • Familiarity with Jamf Pro, Munki, Ubuntu, and macOS enterprise management.
  • Hands-on experience with AI coding assistants, LLM tools, or AI-enabled enterprise applications.
  • Relevant industry certifications (Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator, Jamf Certified Tech/Admin, ITIL Foundation).
