Job description

Job Summary

The Cheesemaker Helpers are responsible for assisting our Cheesemakers and the rest of our production team at all steps of the production process. Individuals should have a can-do attitude and be ready to work with the team with respect and kindness to complete our production goals. Employee must follow all policies and procedures set by the company.


Reporting relationships:

  • Directly supervised by the Production Supervisors and Leads for their shift and side of the Make Room.
  • Indirectly supervised by the Licensed Cheesemaker/Production Manager and the Operations Manager


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Clean and set up cheese forms or molds as well as any related equipment.
  • Stir cheese vats using shovels or specialized equipment.
  • Perform sanitation of various parts of the Make Room utilizing specialized equipment.
  • Flip cheese in forms on tables at the appropriate times
  • Transfer cheese curd from initial vat to finishing vat or forms, either manually or by using specialized equipment.
  • Assist in the preparation of brine tanks and the brined cheeses.
  • Assist in the addition of colorants and other ingredients to the cheese vats.
  • Organizing ready to pack products, including palatizing finished products.
  • Loading and unloading filled 40 lbs. forms, which may weigh up to 70 lbs., into and from the Cheese Presses onto pallets or tables.
  • Operate Cheese Presses, Grinders and Cheese Elevators
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment, including all common areas of the company.
  • Report issues with equipment or with product to the management team as soon as possible.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Education:

  • No specific educational requirements

Experience:

  • Position is entry level, no previous experience required.
  • Past experience in either a manufacturing environment or in food service of any kind is preferred.

Licensure Requirements

  • None

Physical Requirements:

  • This position is performed standing. Individual must be able to stand for at least 4 hours consecutively.
  • This position requires that the individual lift objects which weigh up to 70 lbs regularly, including above waist height.
  • This position is performed in an environment where the individual can be exposed to hazardous chemicals. Employee will be provided with adequate training before performing tasks which involve chemicals.
  • This position is performed in an environment where slips, trips and falls may be a hazard. Employee will be required to maintain adequate footwear provided by the company.
