Description
The Production Operations Director directs overall plant operations ensuring the achievement of production objectives at the lowest cost consistent with the company quality standards and customer delivery requirements.
  • Manage subordinate supervisors who supervise employees in the manufacturing of company products. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Prioritize, schedule and delegate work assignments and directly supervise the plant staff to ensure the achievement of production objectives at the lowest cost consistent with company quality requirements.
  • Ensure production schedules meet order fulfillment deadlines.
  • Establish production schedules to ensure timely delivery of customer products.
  • Evaluate, recommend and implement improvements in methods and processes to increase productivity and quality.
  • Develop plans for the maximum utilization of materials, machines and employees.
  • Review production costs and product quality; modify production and inventory control programs to maintain and enhance profitable operation of division.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of equipment and building, and establish plant housekeeping standards.
  • Develop and recommend plant capital and operating budgets to ensure conformance to budgets.
  • Interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Develop policies and procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental and various regulatory agencies.
  • Enforce safety and work rules and company housekeeping standards.
  • Troubleshoot the tempering of chocolate and train/coach staff on handling of chocolate for best quality chocolate products.
  • Ensure compliance with all quality, safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Demonstrate and coach for respect in the workplace and the work culture promoted by senior management.

Qualifications
  • Requires a bachelor's degree in production/operations management or a related field (must be 18 years or older)
  • 5 years of related experience in the food manufacturing field; 5 years of supervisory/management experience; 5 years of chocolate confectionery experience is preferred, or the ability to take in-person courses/classes to learn chocolate confectionery.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of food manufacturing specifications and quality standards.
  • Familiarity with HACCP, GMPs, Allergens and Personal Protective Equipment.
  • MS Office, Word, Excel, etc.

Abilities
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints, customer specifications, general business periodicals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse staff members and volunteers
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.

Working conditions
Fast paced manufacturing environment that may include weekend work and overtime, exposure to various temperatures, working on concrete floors and noise levels exceeding 85 dbls. Occasionally exposed to loud areas.
Wear required safety equipment when on shop floor. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; and use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
