How much do entry level hospice jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 5, 2026, the average yearly pay for entry level hospice in the United States is $47,880.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $36,000.00 and $55,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What qualifications do I need to work in hospice?

Entry level hospice workers typically need a high school diploma or equivalent and may require certification such as CPR or first aid. Some roles, like hospice aides, may not require formal healthcare training, but having compassion, communication skills, and the ability to work in a team are essential. Additional certifications or training may be preferred depending on the specific position and state regulations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Entry Level Hospice position, and why are they important?

To succeed in an Entry Level Hospice role, you generally need a high school diploma or equivalent, basic patient care skills, and sometimes certification as a nursing assistant (CNA) or home health aide (HHA). Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs) and standard patient care documentation is helpful, as is CPR and first aid certification. Compassion, patience, strong communication, and a supportive attitude are vital soft skills for building trust and comfort with patients and families facing end-of-life care. These skills ensure quality care delivery, emotional support, and smooth coordination with the medical team in sensitive hospice environments.

How to start a career in hospice care?

To start a career in hospice care, individuals typically need a high school diploma or equivalent and may pursue relevant certifications such as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or hospice aide training. Gaining experience in healthcare settings and developing skills in compassionate communication and patient care are also important steps.

What jobs pay 4000 a week without a degree?

Entry-level hospice jobs typically do not pay $4,000 a week; such high earnings are uncommon without advanced skills or experience. High-paying roles that may reach this level often require specialized certifications, sales commissions, or entrepreneurial efforts, rather than entry-level positions. Most jobs paying this amount without a degree are in sales, real estate, or business ownership, not hospice care.

What is an Entry Level Hospice job?

An Entry Level Hospice job typically involves providing basic patient care and support services under the supervision of healthcare professionals. Responsibilities may include assisting with daily living activities, offering emotional support to patients and families, and coordinating non-medical care tasks. These roles can vary but often include positions such as hospice aides, administrative support, or volunteer coordinators. No advanced medical training is usually required, though certifications like CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) may be preferred. This role is ideal for individuals looking to gain experience in hospice or palliative care while making a meaningful impact on patients' lives.

What is the 80/20 rule in hospice?

In hospice care, the 80/20 rule often refers to the principle that 80% of the workload is handled by 20% of the staff, emphasizing the importance of efficient team management and prioritization. For entry-level hospice roles, understanding this concept can help in managing patient care and administrative tasks effectively.

What are the typical responsibilities of someone in an entry-level hospice position?

Entry-level hospice employees typically assist patients with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, and mobility, as well as provide emotional support and companionship. They work closely with nurses, social workers, and other hospice team members to ensure all patient needs are met and comfort is maintained. Regular responsibilities may also include light housekeeping, documenting patient observations, and assisting with simple medical tasks under supervision. This role offers meaningful, hands-on experience in the healthcare field and an opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of patients and families.
