Work EnvironmentOversees teams, manages projects, strategic planningDesigns, develops, tests electronic systems and components
ResponsibilitiesLeadership, project management, resource allocationTechnical design, testing, troubleshooting

The Electronics Engineering Manager focuses on leading teams and managing projects, while the Electronics Engineer concentrates on technical design and development. Both roles require strong engineering credentials, but the manager's role emphasizes leadership and strategic oversight.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Electronics Engineering Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Electronics Engineering Manager, you need a solid background in electronics engineering, project management, and typically a bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical or electronics engineering. Familiarity with design tools like Altium Designer or OrCAD, project management software, and certifications such as PMP or Six Sigma are highly valued. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills help motivate teams and bridge technical and business goals. These capabilities ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet high technical standards in a rapidly evolving field.

What does an Electronics Engineering Manager do?

An Electronics Engineering Manager oversees teams of engineers who design, develop, and test electronic systems and components. They coordinate project timelines, allocate resources, and ensure that design and production meet quality standards and regulatory requirements. Additionally, they collaborate with other departments, mentor engineering staff, and stay updated on the latest technological advancements to drive innovation within their organization.

How does an Electronics Engineering Manager typically balance technical responsibilities with team leadership duties?

As an Electronics Engineering Manager, you'll often juggle hands-on technical oversight with people management. This means not only guiding the design and development of electronic systems but also mentoring engineers, coordinating project timelines, and facilitating cross-functional collaboration. Balancing these aspects requires strong organizational skills and the ability to delegate effectively while staying technically engaged. Many managers participate in design reviews, set engineering standards, and ensure team members have the resources and support needed to succeed.

Introduction:
We are seeking an experienced Technical Manager with strong PCBA design and electronics development expertise to lead hardware engineering activities from concept through production. This role will manage a team responsible for electronic system design, PCB development, and product integration, ensuring designs meet performance, quality, cost, and manufacturability requirements. This position directly supports the growth and technical development of less experienced engineers while also serving as a key customer-facing technical leader. The role involves supporting customers across Aerospace, Defense, Industrial, and Medical sectors, requiring a strong understanding of high-reliability electronics, regulatory requirements, and mission-critical applications.

Responsibilities:
PCBA Design & Electronics Development:

  • Lead PCBA design and hardware development from concept to production
  • Oversee system architecture, schematic design, and PCB layout
  • Guide engineers in analog, digital, mixed-signal, and embedded hardware design
  • Ensure designs meet signal integrity, power integrity, thermal, and EMI/EMC requirements
  • Drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Test (DFT), and Design for Assembly (DFA)
  • Manage prototype builds, board bring-up, debugging, and validation testing

Customer & Industry Engagement:

  • Serve as the primary technical interface for customers across Aerospace, Defense, Industrial, and Medical industries
  • Lead technical reviews, requirement discussions, and design presentations with customers
  • Translate customer specifications (including high-reliability and regulated requirements) into engineering solutions
  • Support proposal development, technical bids, and feasibility assessments
  • Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, quality, and regulatory requirements

Manufacturing & Product Introduction:

  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to support PCBA production and New Product Introduction (NPI)
  • Work with Manufacturing and suppliers to optimize design for cost, quality, and yield
  • Support engineering change orders (ECO/ECR) and lifecycle management

Leadership & Engineering Management:

  • Lead and mentor a team of hardware, PCB layout, and manufacturing engineers
  • Coach and develop junior engineers, supporting their technical growth and career progression
  • Manage engineering schedules, resources, and deliverables
  • Conduct design reviews and technical decision-making
  • Collaborate with firmware, mechanical, quality, and manufacturing teams

Requirements:
Required:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronics Engineering
  • 10+ years of experience in electronic hardware and PCBA design
  • 3–5 years of engineering leadership or management experience
  • Experience working with customers in Aerospace, Defense, Industrial, or Medical industries
  • Strong customer-facing experience with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly
  • Hands-on experience with:
