Job description

We're hiring Software Developers at multiple levels.
Leidos Defense Sensors is seeking multiple Software Developers across various experience levels to join our Sensor Research and Analysis Division and support critical missile defense programs. We are hiring for several types of software development roles, including positions focused on feature and enabler development within Agile teams, as well as roles dedicated to defect resolution and rapid-response support during major test events.
As a Software Developer, you will develop, create, and modify general computer application software and specialized utility programs. You will also analyze user needs and translate them into effective software solutions for our customers. Depending on the specific role, you may work directly on an Agile Software Development team to help achieve key program objectives in support of our national defense.
Ideal candidates bring strong analytical and problem-solving skills, work effectively in a collaborative team environment, and build strong working relationships with peers and technical staff across the program. In all of these roles, you will play a vital part in enhancing system performance and advancing mission-critical objectives in support of our national defense.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Perform high-level software development using C++, Java, or similar languages, including design, development, troubleshooting, and debugging of software components.
  • Collaborate with program experts and user-community stakeholders to design, enhance, and debug existing software, and to develop new capabilities for integration into existing systems.
  • Apply sound software engineering principles to ensure code is modifiable, efficient, reliable, understandable, fault-tolerant, and reusable; support software process management and control throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Create and maintain automated software builds and pipelines within a Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) environment.
  • Contribute to software development activities as part of an Agile team, including Program Increment (PI) Planning, Feature and Story development, Sprint Planning, Iteration Retrospectives, and related team ceremonies.
  • Participate in team and program-level demos, including Sprint Reviews, to showcase completed work and support continuous improvement.
  • Maintain a positive, proactive, and collaborative attitude, contributing to a productive team culture and demonstrating enthusiasm for solving complex challenges.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field from an ABET-accredited institution and 2-4 years of experience in the design, development, and testing of real-time software applications and simulations; or a Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field from an ABET-accredited institution with less than 2 years of relevant experience simulations
  • Proficiency in C++
  • Experience with Java and user interface development
  • Experience with GitLab/Git for version control
  • Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies, such as the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), and application of the Agile methodologies within a technical/engineering environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to create and deliver presentations
  • Must be a US citizen possess and maintain an active DoD Secret clearance
  • Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area to provide full time onsite support

Preferred Qualifications
  • Relevant DoD or industry experience in missile defense
  • Agile Scrum experience and familiarity with Agile methodologies such as the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)
  • Experience with Jira, VersionOne, or similar Agile project-management and issue-tracking tools
  • Experience developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Ansible, Jenkins)
  • Experience with Python
  • Familiarity with modeling and simulation tools
  • Experience with multi-core and multi-threaded programming
  • Understanding of systems engineering concepts (not required to be a systems engineer)

Pay Range $69,550.00 - $125,725.00
