Job Description

The Director, Project Management will be responsible for leading the execution and delivery of a large-scale project portfolio across NBCU News Group, supporting National News, Local Stations, and Telemundo Enterprises. This role will partner closely with the Sr. Director, Program Management to translate strategic priorities into executable projects and workstreams, ensuring consistent delivery, governance, and transparent reporting to leadership.

The Director will directly manage a team of contracted Project Managers across News Group, driving accountability, standardization, and delivery excellence across the full project lifecycle-from intake and scoping through execution, hypercare, retrospective, and archive.

This role requires strong leadership and partnership with SVP & RVPs to determine Project Management needs, financial discipline, and the ability to synthesize complex technical projects into clear, direct, go-forward objectives and track them in JIRA.

The role will collaborate with technology leaders and cross-functional stakeholders from both News Group and internal and external parters to manage Project lifecycles, source and manage appropriate resources and ensure successful outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-day management of contracted Project Managers, Technical Project Managers and Coordinators. Recruit, train, mentor and hold accountable to systems and protocols of governance. Own contractor onboarding/offboarding, training and performance management.
  • Establish and enforce clear expectations and accountability for deliverables, reporting accuracy and execution quality across NBCU
  • Ownership of the News Group Projects, including CAPX budgeting, intake, prioritization, and business scoping for project and operational lines, meeting cadences, risk management, budgets, monthly report outs, annual strategic roadmaps and improving existing processes, applying both Agile and Waterfall methodologies
  • Maintain frequent communication with peers and working groups across all required NBCUniversal and vendors/partners to ensure teams are tracking and delivering all dependencies across all projects.
  • Monitor project progress including but not limited to, power point presentations and other documents, tracking Jira tickets, timelines, and issues and risks lists and communicate updates to colleagues and management
  • Partner with Portfolio to analyze and provide regular status reports that are objective and reflect the true state of project progress. Identify, analyze, and resolve roadblocks, ensuring teams remain aligned with News Group objectives.
  • Manage escalations and go-forward solutions within the team or to sponsors and executives as needed ensuring alignment and resolution
  • Lead communication and dissemination of information between all working teams across projects.
  • Drive training matrix certifications and updates. Facilitate Project Management townhalls, best practices and other training sessions
  • Adhere to News Group TechOps governance principles, including PI Planning, Program Reviews, and Go/No-Go decisions.
  • Develop and foster relationships with other NBCU portfolio leaders, scrum masters, program managers, and external partners, fostering alignment across functions.
  • Self-driven with a strong ability to identify an effective course of action. Thrives in a dynamic environment with evolving priorities and challenges.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across multiple levels of the organization from developer to Senior Executives.
  • Adaptable with history of leading effectively under pressure and through significant change.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • B.S. or B.A. degree in Business, Computer Science/Engineering or related field (or equivalent work experience)
  • 10+ years of experience directing and managing Technical Project Teams using both Waterfall and Agile management methodologies
  • Proven experience managing large, complex project portfolios (100+ initiatives) including live broadcast technical builds, construction projects and operational upgrades.
  • Experience in hiring, managing, onboarding, training and driving accountability across contracted PMs.
  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and resource capitalization
  • Strong expertise in Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid delivery methodologies
  • Demonstrated experience with executive-level reporting and presentations
  • Experience managing annual PM resourcing budgets and assignments.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with the media and entertainment industry and related technical workflows.
  • Experience working within a PMO or PPM organization supporting cross-functional portfolios
  • Experience implementing Agile frameworks and governance best practices.
  • Proficiency in program management tools such as Jira, Microsoft Office Suite, PowerPoint, Project, Power BI, and Smartsheet.
  • Experience in implementing and maintaining accurate key performance measures aligned with project management best practices
  • Experience in implementing governance best practices (PI Planning, Program Reviews, Go/NoGos)
  • Experience as a collaborative team player who can encourage and promote unified team culture across groups to meet common goals.
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills to influence outcomes and resolve issues. 
  • Certifications in one or more Program, Project and Change management areas such as PMP, CAPM, PgMP, CSM or Prosci Change Management

This position currently has a hybrid schedule, which requires contributing from the office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.
