As a part-time Library Assistant for our Fountain Hills Library, you will provide routine customer service, service routing, and clerical work for the library. Your role will be essential in guiding our customers to explore and use library services and how to use our resources.

We Require
  • Two years of customer service experience
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Post-secondary education may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis

We Also Value
  • Experience with library-related automation systems, such as Polaris ILS
  • Experience with information retrieval from library-related databases
  • Experience working or volunteering in a public library
  • Experience assisting customers with online account payments and account management
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish and English

Job Contributions
  • Issues, verifies, and renews library cards for customers
  • Informs customers of their account status and answers basic reference questions and directional questions from customers
  • Resolves customer concerns by phone, in person, or by e-mail/online. Refers customer concerns to the appropriate staff member or supervisor as necessary
  • Initiates search for materials claimed "returned"
  • Processes library materials for shelving and routing
  • Performs opening or closing duties as assigned
  • Assists with the maintenance and display of the collection
  • Assists customers with the use of a self-service payment kiosk

Working Conditions
  • Library environment requiring evening and weekend availability
  • Ability to cover shifts at nearby library branches
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds floor-to-waist; lift up to 5 pounds waist-to-shoulder, lift 1 pound shoulder-to-overhead, carry up to 10 pounds a distance of up to 50 feet, and push/pull up to 50 pounds a distance of 100 feet
