Job description

Summary
This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Chief Readiness Support Officer, Aviation Integration and Resources.
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Deputy Director for the Department of Homeland Security Office of Aviation Integration and Resources (DHS AIR), reporting to and acting on behalf of the Chief Aviation Officer.
Non-BU: This is a non-bargaining unit position.

  • Monitoring aviation resources across department components.
  • Leading aviation strategic planning initiatives.
  • Serving as a key advisor between Department of Homeland Security, federal agencies and external partners on all aviation related capabilities and operations.

Qualifications
Specialized Experience:
You qualify for the GS-15 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal government, OR equivalent public or private sector experience performing duties such as:
  • Reviewing policies and procedures related to efficient use of aviation resources.
  • Coordinating resource allocations for program elements and
  • Collaborating with stakeholders on program goals and initiatives.

Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level.
Candidates who currently have an active OR previously held a certification issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), to operate an aircraft while maintaining proficiency in navigation, flight planning, and aircraft systems may receive priority consideration. If you currently have OR have previously held, a certification issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to operate an aircraft while maintaining proficiency in navigation, flight planning, and aircraft systems, you must submit a copy of your certification in your application for possible priority consideration.

Time-in-grade: Current General Schedule (GS) federal employees, and those that have served in GS positions within the last 52 weeks, must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade, or a combination of the next lower grade level and an equivalent band in the federal service by the closing of this announcement.
