Must Have Technical/Functional Skills
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years of hands-on experience working with IBM DB2 UDB (LUW).
- Strong SQL skills (complex joins, subqueries, window functions, correlated queries).
- Experience writing stored procedures, user-defined functions, triggers, and packages in DB2.
- Proficient in performance tuning: explain plans, index design, bind/rebind concepts, and statistics.
- Familiarity with database design concepts, normalization/denormalization, and ER modeling.
- Experience with ETL processes and tools (e.g., IBM DataStage, Informatica, SSIS) or scripting for data movement.
- Experience with backup/restore, high availability, and disaster recovery solutions for DB2.
- Comfortable working with Linux/Unix/Windows environments and shell scripting for automation.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
Roles & Responsibilities
Role Summary
Were seeking an experienced DB2 UDB Developer to design, develop, and maintain applications and database solutions on IBM DB2 (UDB). The ideal candidate has strong SQL and performance-tuning skills, experience with DB2 on LUW (Linux/Unix/Windows) and a track record of working with development teams to deliver reliable, high-performance data solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain stored procedures, functions, triggers, packages, and SQL scripts for DB2 UDB.
- Collaborate with application developers and architects to design efficient data models and queries.
- Optimize SQL statements and database structures for performance, scalability, and maintainability.
- Analyze and resolve database performance issues (e.g., high CPU, long-running queries, I/O bottlenecks).
- Implement and maintain indexing strategies, table partitioning, and data distribution techniques.
- Participate in database capacity planning, backup/restore strategy, and disaster recovery planning.
- Support schema changes and data migrations; write migration scripts and assist with deployment planning.
- Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with organizational policies and standards.
- Create and maintain technical documentation: data models, ER diagrams, SQL standards, and runbooks.
- Work with DBAs to monitor database health, apply patches, and manage configuration changes.
- Assist in troubleshooting application/database interactions, including connection pooling and transaction issues.
- Participate in code reviews, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications
-Hands-on experience working with IBM DB2 UDB (LUW).
-Certification: IBM Certified Database Administrator or relevant DB2 certification.
- Familiarity with application servers (WebSphere, JBoss), connection pooling, and JDBC/ODBC drivers.
- Experience with CI/CD for database changes (Liquibase, Flyway, custom pipelines).
- Knowledge of SQL performance tools (db2exfmt, db2expln) and monitoring tools (IBM Data Studio, Nagios, Prometheus).
- Experience wit h data warehousing, OLAP, and analytical workloads.
- Exposure to cloud-based DB2 deployments or migration experience to cloud platforms.
