Job description

Location: Remote
Department: IT / Enterprise Systems

What We’re Searching for:

The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the performance, integrity, security, and availability of Hood Container’s enterprise databases. This role supports mission-critical systems—including ERP platforms (e.g., Amtech EnCore, Kiwi MES, Microsoft Dynamics 365 - Microsoft SQL – Azure, ABB MES - Oracle database ), manufacturing systems, inventory management, and customer-facing applications—ensuring reliable data operations across multiple plant and warehouse locations. The DBA’s short to medium term goals will be improving scalability for existing software interfaces, optimization of backup strategy, and optimization of the servers at an O/S and database level.

The DBA will work closely with IT, operations, and business teams to optimize database performance, support integrations (e.g., EDI, APIs), and drive data reliability across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Database Management & Performance

  • Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server (or other DB platforms, e.g.,Oracle, MongoDB) environments
  • Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimizations
  • Manage indexing, statistics, and configuration best practices based on the use case for each server and database
  • Assist with query and execution plan tuning
  • Ensure high availability through clustering, replication, and/or failover strategies

Data Integrity & Security

  • Implement and maintain database security, access controls, and compliance standards
  • Ensure data integrity, consistency, and accuracy across systems
  • Manage backups, restores, and disaster recovery planning/testing

ERP & Business Systems Support

  • Support ERP systems such as Amtech EnCore and related modules
  • Collaborate with business units (Production, Inventory, Shipping, Finance) to support data needs
  • Troubleshoot data issues impacting operations and reporting

Integration & Data Flow

  • Support integrations with external systems (e.g., EDI, APIs, ERPs)
  • Assist in designing and maintaining data pipelines between internal and external systems
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data exchange processes

Development & Automation

  • Write and maintain SQL jobs, stored procedures, functions, and triggers
  • Automate routine database tasks (maintenance jobs, monitoring alerts)
  • Support reporting tools and data extraction for business intelligence (i.e SSRS, Power BI)

Documentation & Governance

  • Maintain database documentation, schemas, and standards
  • Establish and enforce best practices for database usage and development
  • Participate in data governance and master data initiatives
  • Participate in regular reviews and audits for security and disaster recovery

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of database administration experience in a production environment
  • Experience supporting ERP systems (manufacturing preferred)

Technical Skills

  • Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server (or similar RDBMS)
  • Proficiency in T-SQL, performance tuning, and query optimization
  • Experience with backup/recovery models, HA/DR solutions
  • Familiarity with APIs, EDI transactions, and system integrations
  • Understanding of data warehousing and reporting tools is a plus

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in manufacturing or corrugated/packaging industry
  • Exposure to Amtech EnCore or similar ERP systems
  • Experience with RFID or real-time tracking systems
  • Knowledge of cloud database platforms (Azure, AWS)
  • Experience with Git repositories and code archives.
