A credit counselor helps people with poor credit ratings reduce their debt. As a credit counselor, your duties center on assisting clients resolve financial problems. You are also in charge of helping clients improve their finances. These duties include helping clients develop a debt management plan and strategies to pay off a loan, and negotiating with lenders on behalf of your clients. Credit counselors must be knowledgeable in business and finance and have excellent communication skills. Credit counselors may work for credit agencies or financial consulting firms. You spend much of your time in an office, but occasional travel may be required.
