Their responsibilities often include brainstorming ideas, assisting in the development of concepts for campaigns or content, and collaborating with designers, writers, and other creative team members. Creative Associates may also help with project coordination, research, and various administrative tasks related to creative production. This role is ideal for individuals with strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, as well as a passion for creative work.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a creative associate?

To thrive as a Creative Associate, you need a strong background in graphic design, copywriting, and multimedia production, often supported by a relevant degree or portfolio. Harlem Childrenโ€™s Zone โ€” a world-renowned non-profit organization based in Harlem, New York City โ€” seeks a highly driven, creative Associate, Design and Marketing to create compelling designs to support the organizationโ€™s marketing strategies and help direct its social media platforms.

Reporting to the Associate Director, Marketing, the Associate, Design and Marketing will join our Communications Team at the forefront of innovation at HCZ. The successful candidate will be a creative thinker with excellent design skills who can produce advertising and marketing content and manage social media accounts for a large-scale organization. The individual will join HCZ during a critical phase, as we work to scale our impact and put children across the country on the pathway to social and economic mobility.

Who you are
  • A curious, multi-talented, versatile designer and marketing professional who can create content optimized for various platforms and aligned with organizational branding
  • A deadline-driven hustler who thrives in low-ego, team-oriented environments
  • A strong relationship and community builder whoโ€™s comfortable working with stakeholders across our organization
What youโ€™ll do

Reporting to the Associate Director, Marketing, the Associate, Marketing and Design will help design advertising and marketing content to support paid and owned marketing strategies that advance HCZโ€™s key priorities: brand awareness, scholar enrollment, talent recruitment, thought leadership, staff culture, and philanthropy. Primarily, they will collaborate with staff members to create content to promote scholar enrollment, talent recruitment, events, and other key initiatives; and coordinate the day-to-day operations of HCZโ€™s social media accounts, including sourcing or creating, formatting, and posting content, and managing our community engagement efforts. Some travel is required.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with stakeholders at our Promise Academy Charter Schools and Zone After School Programs to create content to support promotion of scholar enrollment, talent recruitment, events, and other key initiatives, including flyers, posters, brochures, apparel, consumer items, and illustrations.
  • Support the design of advertising and marketing content across our digital properties (e.g., website, social media, email marketing), advertising channels (e.g., connected TV, search, and display), and out-of-home (e.g., brand activations, public transportation, printed content, and other spatial ads).
  • Help manage the day-to-day operations of HCZโ€™s social media accounts, including sourcing or creating, planning, formatting, and posting content on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Threads, and YouTube
  • Help oversee community engagement on social media, including responding to and liking user comments on posts
  • Organize, refine, update, and manage all design tools, templates, and resources leveraged by staff
  • Help steward the HCZ brand, ensuring that all visual representations of HCZ stay true to our brand guidelines
Qualifications, Skills, and Knowledge Requirements
  • At least 2-3 yearsโ€™ experience using design software and applications, especially Canva and Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere), and designing print materials and apparel
  • Proficiency in managing the backend of social media platforms
  • Knowledge of social media management platforms (e.g., Sprout Social, Hootsuite) a plus
  • Experience building strong relationships and trust with stakeholders
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and priorities at once
  • Commitment to HCZ values and mission
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Bachelorโ€™s Degree or equivalent strongly preferred

As a member of the Harlem Children's Zone team, you will join a supportive and inclusive community dedicated to helping children, families โ€” and our staff โ€” thrive. We offer highly competitive salaries, a comprehensive benefits package, and opportunities for growth.

Our exceptional full-time benefits include:
  • Highly competitive base salaries
  • Paid time off
  • Employee referral bonus
  • Career Advancement
  • No-cost health insurance
  • Life Insurance
  • Short-and long-term disability
  • Additional voluntary benefits
  • Wellness discounts
  • Commuter benefits
  • Financial wellness perks
  • Additional Benefits (Discounts on flights, hotels, theme parks, concert tickets, and more.)

The annual salary range for this position is $60,000-$70,000 with a comprehensive benefits package including employer-covered health insurance.

Harlem Children's Zone is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
